This question has probably been asked a million times, but I couldn't find an answer easily.

For those of you who stay off site in vacation rental homes, which do you recommend?
I'm looking for fairly close to WDW, with a private pool a must.

Thank you all in advance. We have never stayed off site while visiting Disney, so I'm really new at this.

How many people are in your party? How many bedrooms are you wanting?

Try VRBO and Homeaway.com...that's where we have always booked. Watch out for hidden fees...always check the details for different charges, not just the price per night. Google maps can be a big help in researching the different areas. We have rented in Windsor hills, Lindfields, and Rolling Oaks and liked Rolling Oaks best. Good luck!

4 adults, 1 child, 2-3 bedrooms.

Thank you so much!
Do either of you know how soon I should contact them? I'm looking at 18 months from now, which seems like a long time, but is not!!! Lol
We just booked Windsor Hills a few weeks ago at a little over 9 months in advance and there was still plenty to choose from. If you do decide to go with Windsor Hills, all the units are individually owned so booking policies will depend on who you decide to book with. We rented a 3 bed/3 bath townhome with private splash pool. If you want a single family house with a full sized pool, I believe the single family homes are all 4 bedrooms plus in Windsor Hills. There are other neighborhoods in that area that probably have smaller single family pool homes if you don't need that much space. There is also a large community pool with water slide in Windsor Hills. We haven't stayed there yet, but decided to book it because it seems to get recommended a lot on these boards.

You'll need at least a 4 br house in order to get the private pool. There's a few 3 br in older subdivisions but most of the newer subd. it's 4 br. at least. It doesn't really matter how many extra bedrooms you have as long as the price is right. DH and I usually stay in a 4 br and have stayed in a 5 br by ourselves, for us it's the price that matters. Subdivisions that are close to Disney and that have manned gates are Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms and Emerald Island. Gates but not manned: Formosa Gardens Estates, Acadia Estates, Sunset Lakes. No gates: Rolling Hills, Indian Creek, Oak Island. We've stayed in gated and non gated and really don't mind either way. These are all in the same general area. Here's a map to show you where. The blue markers are all subd. or hotels, pink markers are Disney, red are a few of the restaurants in the area and there are hundreds. Windsor Hills is #1 and just click on markers to the left and you'll find the others.https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/v...z=14&ie=UTF8&mid=1aRuXZ9U1ePA-F-kfM_faXt4x5Oc

That is not too far in advance to book a home. Obviously the better properties get booked early. You'll have a better selection if you start now. Also, Windsor Hills is doing a major upgrade on their community pool. It's supposed to be completed by this January.

We booked a through VRBO in Highgate Park, and were extremely pleased. The house was economical, had a private pool, four bedrooms, and a game room. Unfortunately, I looked at my past rentals and it doesn't appear that the owner rents the home out any more. But I'm sure that you could find a comparable one in the same community. We are familiar with the back roads in the area, so it only took us about 10 minutes to get to WDW, but it takes longer from 192.

We've rented in the Indian Creek area twice now, both great experiences. Both were 5 bedrooms with a private pool and hot tub and the price was good. The one we rented last was ~$850-900 for the week (more off-season price). Not far from World Dr and there's a back way to AK. Close to Hwy 192 with grocery stores and restaurants.

I've used orlandovillas.com twice for renting houses. I had very pleasant experiences both times I used them.

First time was in the Haines City area (it was before we started the Disney portion of vacation). Price was great (it's also a little far from Disney), but if we were planning a trip to LEGOLAND, it would be a perfect place to stay. It was a nice little gated community and a Walmart was literally right outside the gates.

The second time was in the Santa Cruz area. It was about 20-25 minute drive to the parks, but the house was great and the price was even better especially since this time my family and I was splitting the cost with my mom.

We will be staying offsite again this October. My wife was able to find a house from a facebook group she is in, so I didn't use orlandovillas again, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
