If i typically like to travel to Florida in april, with the possibility of travel during the 1st week of december or from Jan thru to the end of March (avoiding president day, march break and easter week) what use year would you suggest i go for?

We have a december use year which might work for you as well. We travel mostly in the spring and early summer and know that the odds are extremely slim of us ever traveling in the fall. We chose december to have the opprotunity to go for christmas if ever the occasion were to arise, but because the majority of our trips would be in feb, april & june/july.

I would recommend a Dec UY. If you think that 1st week in December travel could start a bit earlier in the end of November, then Oct UY might be even better.

With these UY, all of your winter travel would take place during the first 8 months which would give you a lot of flexibility in case you ever had to cancel or change a reservation.

Good luck!

Hi Sandi,

I'm just reading and learning. Can you explain why if the dates start in late November that OP would want an October UY instead of November? Do we need to make sure our UY is the month before the first possible month of travel?

We like to travel late October (never earlier than mid-Oct) so I was thinking a UY of October would be ideal since it begins Oct 1. But if you think September is better for us, would you please advise/explain? Thank you so much!

There is no Nov UY or you are right, that would work! There is also no May, July or January.

In your case, I think an Oct UY would still be the best since your trips would never bump in to September.

Ah ha! Then that would make total sense! :-)

I've been doing a LOT of reading over the past day but I had not come across the fact that there are some months that are not used for the UY thing. I'm sure there is a great reason. I'll keep digging until I find out why. Thank you so much!

thanks for the quick replies!

I don't really forsee us travelling at the end of Nov - the only reason we would go in early december would be to see the christmas decorations with less crowds than if we were to go closer to the 25th :)

I tend to prefer the weather in March/April compared to December. Especially this december, which was very chilly - and that's saying something as Im from the land of snow and ice (aka Canada)!

if i decide to go with a december use year and made my first purchase prior to december 2011 (sometime between now and then) how do the points work? I assume the points do not come until december 2011 and would necessitate me to bank the points into 2012???

confused :confused3

Your use year for Dec is still in 2010. For 2011 you would not get the points for 2011 till December 2011.

When you purchase direct through Disney, you are almost always given current UY points.

So, if you were to buy anytime before November 30th, 2011, you would be given your full set of points for the Dec 2010 UY. Then on December 1st, 2011, your next set of points would become current UY points.

Disney usually allows new buyers, regardless of when they buy in the UY, to bank those points, even if it is beyond the banking deadline. For Dec, that is July 31st.

Even if you buy after that date, Disney should allow you to bank the 2010 UY points. Many people have even timed add ons to be done toward the end of the UY for this very reason.

Purely out of curiousity, why did DVD decide to not have January/May/July/Nov UY's? That seems a bit unevenly spaced at the very least since its a 5 month spread followed by 2, then 4, then 2 again. If the point is to not have everybody bank points at the same time, shouldn't it be spread out over 12 months, or maybe even 2 months out of every fiscal quarter if they only wanted 8 UY months? Seems odd. :confused3

That is something that I don't know if anyone really knows the answer to and I know when I asked my guide about it, he didn't seem to know the answer either.

Not only did they skip some months for UY's, not all points at a resort are assigned equally to UY's either. For example, at BLT, there are a lot more points assigned to Feb UY than there is to my UY, June.

I do know that when they started BLT, that was the UY pushed to many of the new buyers and thus the reason you see a lot of Feb UY contracts for BLT on the resale market and not a lot of others.
