Best Use Year for Jan/Feb Trips + Occasional Fall/December Visits?

Hi DVC community!

My family is excited about potentially joining DVC, but we’re a bit stumped on choosing the right use year. Here’s our typical Disney travel pattern:
• Our main trip is always a week-long visit in late January or early February
• We occasionally do shorter trips in September or October
• We’re considering adding some early December trips for the holiday season in the future

Given this travel schedule, we’re trying to figure out:
1. Which use year would work best for our January/February trips?
2. How would this use year accommodate our occasional fall and potential December trips?
3. What are the banking deadlines for different use years, and how might they affect our planning?
4. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to certain use years for this travel pattern?

We want to make sure we choose a use year that gives us maximum flexibility and minimizes the risk of losing points. Any advice from seasoned DVC members would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

In your case the Aug or Sept UY is ideal. All those trips all within the banking window so if you did have to cancel or change, you have options to still bank or reschedule.

Banking for Aug is end of March and Sept is end of April.

Agree with others Aug or Sept would be best and get all your points in that same UY. Unless your fall trip is always going to be different location than your winter trip? Aulani, or DLR, or even Vero or Hilton Head?

We are thinking of purchasing at Boardwalk or Beach Club. We've stayed at Boardwalk two weeks ago and loved the location. We'll likely have a majority of our trips to our home resort.

August/September

I agree with everyone here - August UY would be best

If I had to do it all over again I would have picked October for both my contracts since I would only visit October- May due to the heat. If you would go in September I’d pick August or September.

I have a February contract and an October contract, I wish I could do it all over 😂

Thanks for all the helpful information, everyone! Based on what you’ve shared, it sounds like an August Use Year would be the best fit for us since we may take trips in September some years. Really appreciate the insights!

Sept could work fine too, but not if you ever go in Aug, which is why Aug UY makes the most sense. :)

In your scenario, I agree with the others that an Aug UY would work well for you. Even with an April trip, you would need to cancel before 31 days to prevent the points from going into holding, you would then still be able to bank them.
