Best use of snack credits for breakfast

At some time during the day you'll probably want to use your snack credit for a snack.

I'd just bring a box of cereal, box of donuts or muffins. Buy a gallon of milk and have breakfast in your room. Moderate and deluxe resorts have refrigerators and coffee makers in the room. If you're staying in a value resort you can use a cooler and ice and buy a refillable mug for coffee.

Thanks to all for the great info!

We'll be at the DVC BWV late this month (so my son can watch the Bucs Training Camp) and added DDP to our ressie. All the info can get so confusing-don't know where I'd be without DIS-ers. :grouphug:

While I may not enjoy all those Tampa Bay Bucs practices, I know we'll be eating well....and I do LOVE my desserts and treats!

Unfortunately, we won't have a refrigerator because we're staying at the All-Stars, and we won't have a cooler because we're flying in. It is nice to know that cereal and milk are counted as one credit. We are saving our CS and TS credits for lunch and dinner. We want eat quick in the morning so we can hit the parks early!

I don't know about that - of the 6 days we were on the dining plan in May we got a snack only two of them (and they were drinks because it was so hot). Otherwise, the cs and ts kept us pretty full. We usually had leftovers for breakfast but if you don't have a fridge I don't recommend that. What about sharing some cs meals to have a few left to share for breakfast?

DS will want a big breakfast, but not me. He can use his counter service and I am going to use the snack credit for a bowl of fruit (I think sells for $3.49). That spreads out our counter credits. There are tons of good options for snacks. I am not going to waste a snack credit for a chip, apple or $2-2.50 ice cream, I'd rather pay OOP. Goal is to get best value and I think that would be something $3 and up....like the fruit bowl for breakfast or a sundae for an evening treat.........

ps We did eat the fruit bowls in May and they are wonderful :thumbsup2

Perhaps. But we ended up using up 12 snack credits in the last 24 hours of our trip because we didn't use them all week. That INCLUDES using a few for breakfasts (yummy choc croissant or fruit bowl or big box of donuts, etc). There was no need for all 4 of us to get a big bowl of ice cream as a snack. Typically one satisfied us and we shared.

My suggestion to those on the dining plan- use your credits first and then if you run out, pay OOP. You may find yourself with 10 snack credits or a few too many CS credits b/c you worried you'd run out at the beginning of the week and paid OOP too much.

FWIW, my dh would get a CS breakfast w/ milk as his drink. The girls and I would split donuts or fruit bowl with the milk as their beverage. We had PLENTY of CS credits and plenty of snack credits along with our TS meals that we didn't end up paying OOP for anything except a nasty Pop pizza delivery to our room! :OP

If you are not opposed to donuts for a breakfast, you can get a large box of Entemann's donuts (variety pack or pop 'ems) for 1 snack credit. My kids and I can wait hours to eat breakfast but my dh prefers it right away so he'd get a CS breakfast and we'd get a "snack". By the end of the week we had so many CS credits left that the girls and my dh would each get a breakfast and I'd pick at their leftovers.

Got to agree with some earlier posters about using up snack credits first and paying OOP later. We didn't end up using any of our snack credits during our stay last year until the last day. And then we ended up buying snacks for other people in line just to use them up. The amount of food you get with the meals is pretty much enough for us during the day- plus a 100 calorie snack pack or two that we carry into the park with us. We had been planning to save our snack credits to use for drinks but between having water with us in the morning and then getting another water at lunch- it was enough to last the day.

and we won't have a cooler because we're flying in

This may sound absurd, but can you check a cooler with the rest of your luggage?

If we fly, we thought about inquiring about that. Or, if we have groceries delivered, add a styrofoam cooler to the list

We have a Coleman thermoelectric cooler that we used to bring as checked baggage all the time. We just kept the box it came in and taped it up with the rest of the roll inside the cooler so we could re-tape it for the trip home. It worked great and was certainly much larger than the small refrigerators the resort provides. Also, we wrote our name/address on the outside of the box in case it got lost in transit.

I've been researching this too, and if you're willing to eat some "treat-like" breakfasts, I've heard that the MK Bakery on Main Street has some yummy breakfast items that count as snacks.

I remember reading something about a french toast loaf.... :cloud9:

MK Bakery has an excellent (huge) cinnamon roll that is allowed as a snack credit. That is my kind of breakfast. My son got one a couple weeks ago.

Fountainview Bakery in Fut. World @ Epcot - muffins, croissants, etc.

We have a great soft-side collapsible rolling cooler that can be folded and is also acceptable as a carry-on.

Most resorts have a full box of donuts or a box of donut holes as a snack credit. A quart of milk is a snack credit. Large muffins, pastries, fruit salad, fruit and yogurt parfait. You can also get a loaf of bread or package of 6 bagels, but that's a poor use of the $. Forget the little cereal boxes--very limited variety. If you want cereal for breakfast, pack a big box from home and get milk for your snack credit.

You can only get an 8 ounce carton of milk as a drink with breakfast, but could get 32 ounces as a snack credit!

No, we regularly got the large bottle of milk (not a quart but 20 oz) as a beverage with our meal on the ddp.

Here's what I do - Several years ago I bought a big yellow, collapsable cooler with wheels. It looks just like a piece of luggage, only it's not black. I wheel it and check it like regular luggage. I line it with a small card board box and fill it with extra water and gatorade. Then I fill it with ice and use it as a cooler at the resort. I stick it in the tub because it will leak.

I put dirty clothes in it on the way home. I bought it at the Totes outlet. They didn't have anything the last time I was there, but they had another collapsable version with wheels. These thing are great for traveling because they are so light weight. Another alternative is to get one of those lined freezer bags that they sell to take home frozen food. Take one of these folded up in a carry on and use that to fill with ice.

The first 4 days of our stay is on points at OKW. I plan on bringing milk, cereal, fruit etc for breakfast. When we move to POP for 2 nights we will probably eat at the counter service area..

We find that, on most days, we can eaily share 2 CS lunch meals between the 3 of us (DH, DS10 and myself) so we use up some of the extra CS credits @ our resort food court for breakfasts! I always bring a kettle from home(replaces our home kettle every year, as we don't bring it back home with us!) for morning coffee/tea and instant oatmeal - cheapest and easiest way to do breakfast!!

This August will be our first trip using the dining plan. This is a great thread. Thanks!

Need this info, too... Although I am hoping that snack breakfast items would not be limited to muffins, donuts and pastries. Do they offer fruit, cereal, etc. for snacks?

I would recommend bringing own small boxes of cereal and then using credit to get milk. :)
