best use of FP+ for a show???

How does FP+ work for shows? It says for standby to arrive 30 minutes before the show begins (for lion king anyway) but I am reading that FP+ gets let in first. The whole point for me to use a FP+ would be to arrive five minutes before the show and have a guaranteed seat, not have to WAIT 30 minutes for the show to start.

If anyone knows, please lmk if this would be a waste of a FP for us or if you can walk up five minutes before showtime with a FP and know you will get your seats...
