Best use for a few points?

I've got * points that are going to expire without use (at least without being used by me). I hate to waste anything! What's the best way to get something for these? Thanks!

Are you saying the points can't be banked into next year? The obvious answer is to try and rent or transfer the points.

They've already been banked, so can't be again -- altho they're good until *. Is renting/transferring practical for points? And pointers to resources to rent/transfer a few points easily? Thanks!

i believe you are mistaken.

you can donate a reservation (side note: there is no tax deduction for doing so) but there's no way to donate "points" by themselves...

It would be really nice if DVD would let you do this, you know set up a contract for organizations like Give Kids The World or Make A Wish. Or, at the very least, let 503(c)'s buy a contract, but then ignore the transfer/banking guidelines for the organizations. In other words, give the orgs unlimited transfer-in's so that others could donate points.

I'd be tempted to check availability for a weekend during F&W and then look for a transfer from another member to cover the additional points you would need. Weekend trips can be really fun!

I'd suggest trying to rent them. Take me as an example - I will likely be trying to rent a few points at the last minute in a few weeks. I can't plan for sure quite yet for a number of reasons. But you never know when your points are a great match for a renter!

Only if your travel distance/time is reasonable. We've flown to HI (direct flight) for the weekend ... but wouldn't think of doing the same to MCO (all day travel with at least one stop between).

Banked points can not be transferred. So renting would be the only option. The Rent/Trade board on DISboards is one venue for renting points, but it may not work for you since you may not meet the post requirement. Depending on the number of points and when they expire, you may be able to use David's to rent your points. You will see David's ad in the Rent/Trade board.
