Best under-rated or over looked restaurants?

I have a few places I've stumbled on, usually after getting turned away from dinner from everywhere else!!

There is a bakery in the back of the French pavillion that is SO good! My favorites are the ham and cheese croissant, which they heat up for you, and the strawberry tarts. So many people don't go back there and it's really great food...you can also get snacks from DDP on there, and it's better than buying unlimited rice krispy treats!

Tomorrowland Nood Terrace at MK (when it's open!) I found out that when it does open, they bring the chefs over from the Contemporary to cook there, so the food is pretty good.

The Wave does an amazing breakfast with loads of choice.

My favorite place that never seems to get great responses is Artists Point. I LOVE it there, the food is spectacular, especially the warm chocolate tart for dessrt. Little tip: if you go, ask for Gary to serve you...he's our favorite and always remembers us and what we order!

Underrated: Nine Dragons, Chefs de France

Overrated: Kona, Whispering Canyon Cafe

SEVERELY Overrated: Le Cellier

Le Cellier has good food and service, but for the amount of time spent trying to get an ADR the food should be excellent. Not to mention the expense! :sad2:

I would have to disagree with this poster, especially if you are on the Disney Dining Plan. In my opinion, Kona and Le Cellier are the two best values for 1TS credit in the World.

My vote for best underrated is Yak & Yeti. We had read a lot of negative reviews, but we absolutely LOVED it. I have also read several posts heralding The Wave, so we are trying to incorporate that in our next trip. I agree with the previous poster that Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch is great!

This is a great thread!

I have the opposite review for Chefs de France. It wasn't bad but it was incredibly average. The soup was served lukewarm to cold.

I guess like a PP said it just depends on the night, the cook and the staff.

My soup was so hot I was actually still trying to eat it when my entree got there.

To each there own. Everyone has different tastes. I think it also depends on what you get. :flower3:

I absolutely depends on what you order and when you're there. If you know where you're going to be eating and you have doubts why not ask a cast member? We do! They've helped us several times when we weren't sure what to order at a particular restaurant. For instance, at Chefs du France at lunch we were encouraged to order the mac and cheese. We were a little skeptical, but they were right! It was to die for, that is if you're a mac and cheese fan. The creme brulee was wonderful! However, it's a tight race between their creme brulee and The Brown Derby's. Cast member have a great idea of what the different restaurants offer and what is usually their better fare. Also ask them about the different resort restaurants - I'd bet they could tell you about those, too. The folks that make the magic happen aren't exactly chained to one area of WDW. They're encouraged to check everything out so they can tell people what's good, when to go and what to see.

You hardly ever hear about 9 Dragons - I like it - in fact we may eat there next week!

I think the Sand Trap Bar and Grill at Eagles Pines and Osprey Ridge is a real hidden gem. The atmosphere isn't tops but the food is.

I think the most underrated table service is Narcoossee. I don't see that place getting a lot of play. Underrated CS is Wolfgang Puck Express.

I can't really say I could make a call on overrated places...

Whats others' opinion on Tony's Town at MK and Mamma Melrose at the Studios?

I just wanted give a thumbs up to Chef de France! I've eaten there 3 times and the last time, my food wasn't very good. The other 2 it was the best I've had at Dinsey! I'm going again in 2 weeks (from tomorrow!!!) and I can't wait! I'm sure every place can have a bad day so give it a try!

I will say that Le Cellier was just Okay..I wasn't impressed, but the atmosphere is neat. If I didn't have free dining, I wouldn't pay for it.

I don't think many of the buffets are great, but love the atmosphere and the looks on the kids faces when they get to meet and dance with their favorite characters! They could feed us dirt and we'd still go:rotfl:

I don't see alot of reviews on:

-Captain Cooks CS at the Poly: This is my favorite CS meal in WDW!! Terrific turkey sandwich on soft & fresh multigrain bread. They also have this adult grilled cheese sandwich which is so yummy! My DF likes the cuban pork sandwich. The sandwiches come with your choice of fresh steamed veggies or these delicious homemade chips that are multi-colored & look like Terra Chips. & the best thing about this place is that they serve Dole Whips!:cool1: Also, you order your food via touch screen computers which is kind of neat. We can't afford to stay at the Poly, but we love to travel over here, order our sandwiches from Captain Cook's, & picnic on the beach for dinner & watch Wishes!:cool1:

-The Mara CS at AKL: We loved this place for breakfast & dinner. Outstanding chicken strips & fries (though I'm sure the strips are now nuggets). & you can buy some of the popular items from Boma here, like hummus, soup, & Zebra Domes!

-MK Bakery at MK for lunch: We love to do lunch here. They only offer a few sandwiches here: I think they are turkey & cheese, ham & cheese, & mozzerella/tomato/pesto, but they are huge, fresh, & delicious! They also serve a wonderful frozen latte, and of course their desserts!:cloud9: I also like the atmosphere here. It's relaxing & really fun to take a break on Main St.

-The Plaza at MK: I've actually never eaten here, but I've seen a handful of reviews & they are all positive. I have seen the inside & it's a beautiful restaurant. Plus, they do get those Main St. actors coming in sporadically & they are supposed to be quite entertaining!

For me, Yak and Yeti TS at AK. I hadn't heard TOO much, didn't even think to get an ADR. Ended up walking in one day and it was the best meal of the trip. The babyback ribs and wonton dessert? TO DIE FOR!! ;)

I love Yakatori House, it was the best CS I had at DW when we went last year. Also the Biergarten was great as well.

How can Artist Point be underrated when anyone who talks about it raves about it?

Well, except me. Worst meal I ever had on property.

Overrated: IMO, CRT is overrated. Food is just average, not signature standard. they should only use 1 table service and charge for the picture.

Underrated: Artist Point. I just don't think it gets the credit it deserves. It's the best meal and service we've ever had on property by far!! Haven't tried V&A's though! Looking forward to that!

its that time again...everyone do the bump. still need to make some food decisions for October. TIA 4 the help:banana:

I haven read the whole thread but i'll throw my 2 cents in..
Most Overrated: LeCellier.
Sorry I just don't get it...its not even the best steak in WDW.
I wouldn't even put it in the top 3. But I'm someone who like my steak,
a steak. And not with toppings on it and that's what they do there.
So to me go to Shula's, Yachtsman or even Jiko for great steaks.

Close second: Cal Grill.
Sorry it's no where near the "romantic" place for a couple to go and then watch fireworks.
Till about 30-45 minutes after fireworks, the place is loud and packed with families(it is disney afterall) destroying the romance.
Go to Narcoosees or Jiko for romantic dinners.

Most Underated:
That's tougher because my favs all highly rated but I'll go with Jiko
simple because when people ask about where to go for a romantic meal, it seems to get skipped often.
But the servers are fantastic, the food and wine menu's amazing. Even if you don't know wines you could tell a server what you like and they're great of matching you up with one for you.
Plus that's where we had and were recommended to, the best wine we've ever had.
To me the best resturant on disney property.

Second choice...Cosmic Rays Cafe.
I know it's just a burger joint but great to get out of the heat of the parks, has fun entertainment for the kids.

When i made my reservations over the phone and mentioned the message boards to the lady on the phone, and how some of the restaurants were very popular, she told me dont go by the message boards. Read over the menu of every restaurant and form your own opinions. Not every place will fit every family. She said there was alot of excellent restaurants which are overlooked. The Biergarten was one of them she mentioned that its a great place and not always booked and she didnt understand why. I am sure alot of them are overrated, the only thing is the character meals are very popular and get booked up because there arent very many of them to accommodate everyone at the busy times. The character meals you can expect to book up as they are for the kids, but others i dont see the big appeal after looking at some of the menus such as LeCellier and a few others.
