Best under-rated or over looked restaurants?

We were presently suprised and loved Jiko at AKL. The food was great, service, atmosphere....excellent.

Not sure what your "clear vision" has to do with what some feel is an underrated restaurant. It is not like these restaurants are really hidden - heck, Plaza is right on Main Street! It is not like Disney advertises or anything ;)
While it is nice to share/gossip it also is not without a cost especially when it regards an organization that is now providing meal plans at fixed revenues with variable cost.

A surge of business to a truly "under rated restaurant" may leave Disney with no other choice then to control their dining plan profit margins by reducing their cost along with possible rate increases the following year. We already have a list of restaurants that have "downgraded" offerings since Disney incorporated the Cruise Ship dining concept to their land operations.

Underrated:

Rainforest Cafe for breakfast (Animal Kingdom). Amazing breakfasts and large enough to share. They breakfast pizza is amazing.

We use to love Tubby's Buffeteria in the lower level of the Dolphin, but since it's changed it's name (now Piccaboo) I've not been there....so the quality may have changed as well.

Crystal Palace for lunch. It seems like a lot of folks go there for breakfast, but for a few $'s more you can get an amazing lunch. Personally, I don't like spending a lot of money for eggs and waffles.

Overrated:

Akershus. We use to love it before it became all Princess, all the time. We even gave it a chance for three princess lunches, but each one was more of a disappointment then the last....so we are done with that one.

Sunshine in the Land at epcot as counter service has lots of varity for everyone in the family, 4 different food type stations and and the deserts there are amazing. The hotel food courts is overlooked a counter services, the food is very good there and for desert you can get almost anything from the ice cream stand

WAYYYYYYYYYYYOverrated Cinderella royal table I agree with this one as well, is a once and done thing for me. Food is just ok and price is way to high. 1900 park fare and Norway has pricesses and way better food.

It is not 5 star food at all, your paying for eating in the castle.

Cinderellas table gives you one photo of you and Cinderella, but at Norway they give you 2 smaller pictures and one big one for free with a princess, and they have the salad bar buffet and if you don't like what you picked for an entree they will bring you something else for free.

Most Overated: Cal Grill. Everyone says, hey let's go have a nice dinner and watch the fireworks. But so does every family with all the kids. End result. It's loud and crowded. Not the nice dinner you would think for the money.
Several others offer better for the the price...Jiko, Artist Point, Narcossesse.

I love this thread!!!
One underrated place we love that has not been mentioned yet is Tokyo Dining in Japan at Epcot. It is upstairs, and is a separate restaurant from the Teppan place. It is a great place for lunch - the restaurant is surrounded by windows that look out onto WS and the lake, and you can get everything from sushi to tempura to teriyaki. Prices are reasonable as well. :thumbsup2

I second that - Village Haus was surprisingly good for fast food!

I love working at a "hidden gem" restaurant (GFC). Most people find us because they can't get in anywhere else or they are staying at the GF and just want to grab a meal without having to go anywhere.

My favorite place to grab a quick lunch is the bakery at France, I love the tartine (pizza bread) Although the place itself is popular for desserts, I think the sandwiches are overlooked.

I'm bumping again. Please help me get through until our next trip. Food is the only thing that helps.:rotfl:

I've got another vote for the Plaza being the most underrated. We think it's just great for what it is.

I think Le Cellier and CRT are overrated.

GFC would have been on my list for underrated, especially for a nice breakfast, but we recently had a just terrible meal there, service, food, everything was bad :( I hope it was just a fluke as we might try lunch there after our Yuletide Tour!

...then you have to find a little hole-in-the wall place. Preferably one made out of cinderblock (maybe painted, maybe not). The interior should be nothing but cheap linoleum tile, a big-ol' brick fireplace/smoker, and a lot of plexiglass surrounding the lone old-school cash register. (It's a cash-only business.) ...
Ribs - Yep, find the hole-in-the wall surrounded by pickup trucks, the same goes for Cajun food, "Cajun Cafe", Lake Charles LA, awesome food - meanwhile regarding Disney, Tusker used to be our favorite but then they changed it so I no longer know if it is good or not. Two must haves for our visits are Tangierine Cafe and Sunshine Seasons.

Underrated:
Narcoossees - LOVED it here! AWESOME view of the fireworks and not nearly as crowded or loud as the California Grill

Kimonos (inside the Swan) - Best Sushi! Rarely crowded!

Beaches and Cream - Best Junk-Food 50's Style Burgers on property!

Overrated:
Cinderella's Royal Table - While I did enjoy breakfast and seeing all the Princesses in one place, I will probably not be going again until we have children.

We really enjoy the pizza and breadsticks at Pizzafari....CRT was for the experience more then the food though....

I would love to hear about Chefs de France!

Now granted we have only eaten at 3 TS places in Disney (we will be trying Le Cellier on our next trip) but Chefs was amazing! We LOVED it!

We both had the French Onion Soup. YUM! and the Filet Mignon WOW!
And to finish it off the Creme Brulee was TO DIE FOR!

We are going back for our Anniversary and this is the restaurant we chose for our Anniversary dinner.

They always seem to have reservations available which really surprises me. I called just a few days ago for a ressie on December 13 and had my pick of times.

I never hear much about it on these boards but I would be amazed if I can find a restaurant that I like better.

I also think the Wolfgang Puck Cafe does not get enough credit. That is our other favorite place to eat. Don't hear much talk about it either on these boards. O well. Just makes it easier for me to get ressie's at my favorite place.:flower3:

I have the opposite review for Chefs de France. It wasn't bad but it was incredibly average. The soup was served lukewarm to cold. I had the chicken and the skin was very fatty and it wasn't very good chicken. I don't remember what came with it. I had the crispy cake for dessert and it was eh. I forget what DF had for entree. For dessert he had the ice cream or sorbet and it had multiple flavors but we weren't really told what they were. It was ok but the flavors weren't very distinct. It's edible but nothing special - much better places to try out.

SEVERELY Overrated: Le Cellier

Le Cellier has good food and service, but for the amount of time spent trying to get an ADR the food should be excellent. Not to mention the expense! :sad2:

I agree with the first statement, but I think the food at Le Cellier is BAD! :scared1:Would not go back.

Also overrated: Narccossee's. IMO

Sometimes it all depends on your tastes, the cooks that night and a host of variables. I love the Biergarten in Germany. We had a great meal, very nostalgic for my parents of German ancestory and very festive entertainment. We recommended it to friends and they hated it. Overpriced, crowded and boring were the comments. It all just depends.

Of course I will always go to the Crystal Palace and Animal Kingdom Lodge despite what others say.:)
