Best under-rated or over looked restaurants?

Oh, the torture! We've always been out in the far wings, so we've never wakened to the smell of food cooking. That would be an experience. :thumbsup2

We stay at WL all the time, and we've only been to WCC twice and Artist Point once. And on our upcoming trip, we aren't dining at either! But next time, we'll have to go back. I surprised myself by loving the buffalo steak at Artist Point, and of course the berry cobbler.

By the way, thank you for the tip on Flame Tree. I suspected as much. Ribs are such an individual thing. I've eaten them all over the country, and had a big variety of them, and I know the type I like. But I know people who like 'em prepared other ways. So while I'm always willing to try ribs at any given place, it's pretty rare that I find ones that are worth all the napkins and toothpicks I'll need afterward. :rotfl:

We were in a wing for the first few days and there was an issue about the room and another problem that came up. They moved us all the way up to concierge which was very embarassing and we had a totally private patio. T"he kitchen must have vented out behind that side because the smells were just soooooo yummy!!!!!

I really liked the resort overall. Don't know if I liked it better than AKL, but it was very very nice, comfortable and very quiet out on the wing in particular. With the exception of the front desk concierge staff, we couldn't have asked for nicer people. They were just awesome.

Please don't flame me, but I thought that Boma was way over rated. Was looking forward to it after hearing so many positive things, but left feeling nonplussed.

Columbia Harbour House in MK has great sammies, and we can always find a place to sit upstairs with a nice view!

Dh & I had a our 15th Anniv dinner at Citricos in Jan. It was the best food we have had anywhere! We will be in WDW next week and would love to go back but I don't want to take the kids - they wouldn't appriciate it!

Underrated: Nine Dragons, Chefs de France

Overrated: Kona, Whispering Canyon Cafe

SEVERELY Overrated: Le Cellier

Le Cellier has good food and service, but for the amount of time spent trying to get an ADR the food should be excellent. Not to mention the expense! :sad2:

IMO, overlooked and underrated: The Plaza at MK. It is a little sandwich-and -ice cream TS on the corner of Main Street going toward Tomorrowland. I love the Reuben, DD loves the kids meals (her fave is the tomato soup appetizer and grilled chicken on a stick entree), DH loves the Philly Cheesesteak. A nice little place to relax, have some good, simple food, and enjoy the A/C. The Main Street "characters" (the Mayor, the Barbershop Quartet, the newspaper lady, etc) also stop in periodically to mingle with the guests. I never have a problem getting an ADR, and the prices are very reasonable for WDW.

We agree whole heartedly about this. We discovered The Plaza last year in Oct we had an extra TS to use and asked about a seat. The wait was 1 hr and we had the best food and time. Great for a nice lunch and relaxing in the air conditioning.:goodvibes

I love it that Disney has something for everyone! AKL is truly a gem of a resort.

I have to second this.

We couldn't get into Narcoossee's on our last trip, but we were able to get a ressie at Citrico's. I was a bit worried because no one seems to mention it on the boards...so I didn't know what we were getting into. I worried for naught however...Citrico's was wonderful. Excellent food and even better service. We highly reccomend it.

For counter service, particularly with little ones, I like Pinnochio's Village Haus in MK during the "slow" season. It seems to get a lot of bad press, but I like it. You can get a filling antipasto salad, the kids can eat pizza - and you can get a table near the plexiglass and watch the Small World boats. It isn't gourmet, but it can be nice and relaxing if you beat the lunch rush.

I agree! We eat there a lot for CS.

i have to agree with those who say that columbia harbor house is good. i thought their sandwiches were great for a light lunch or dinner and the clam chowder was delicious. obviously it's not the same as what we get here in mass, but it was still better than a lot that i've tried before. i was disappointed that we missed it on our last trip because we got there too late and dinner had just finished being served.

I say the plaza! It's a cute little place to have a quick meal. Very good sandwiches and I love the Tomato soup there!

I have to agree about Harbour House, very yummy sammies. Good Tuna sandwich.

here are my suggestions for overlooked choices for excellent, fairly priced meals:

Table Service:

Kona - excellent for breakfast or dinner

Grand Floridian Cafe - love it for breakfast, dinner is good too and the GF is just so festive.

Trails End - just tried it for dinner this visit and loved it. We did trails end for an early dinner followed by the wagon ride - one of my most fun evenings. (got an ADR that day and no res for the 7 pm wagon ride - just go over. it wasn't even filled - only $8 pp)

Counter Service:

POFQ food court for dinner - starting around 5:30 or so they have great pot roast, BBQ ribs and chicken. Comes with 2 side dishes - like corn or mac and cheese, rice, veggies and a yummy piece of corn bread. We really love the pot roast. We get 2 dinners to share - like one pot roast and one ribs and its a great dinner - not crowded and pretty cheap. And bonus - they take the DDE!

Wolfgang Pucks at the Market place (early in the day this is not crowded). I love their iced-tea.

Gasparillas at GF (only when its nice out!) The choices are not outstanding, but the CS food is prepared when you order and when its nice out, you can get a lovely table with an umbrella outside by the marina with a view of the castle (not bad for CS prices). They also have self-serve frozen yogurt soft serve which I'm not sure I've seen other places. Its a nice pleasant meal. Note, you can see the fireworks from there.

I agree that CRT is over-rated. The death of the food at this location occurred when it became a character meal. :sad2: Prior to that, it had been great. Now the selections are limited and the food is just "OK". Not what one would expect from a "signature restaurant".

If you're looking for really exceptional ribs
...then you have to find a little hole-in-the wall place. Preferably one made out of cinderblock (maybe painted, maybe not). The interior should be nothing but cheap linoleum tile, a big-ol' brick fireplace/smoker, and a lot of plexiglass surrounding the lone old-school cash register. (It's a cash-only business.) The folks working there should look like the sort of folks who enjoy BBQ. You know, not too fussy, willing to get sauce under the fingernails from time to time. The ribs should be served on paper plates. Preferably, there should be no tables---if you want to "eat in", you are welcome to sit on the curb out front. There cannot be more choices of sides than choices of meat. There should only be a couple of sauces---and you shouldn't need a paragraph to describe each one, 'cause "mild, medium, and hot" are all you need to know.

I had such a place three blocks from me when I lived in Oakland, CA. It was awesome. Naturally, such places could not possibly exist within the confines of Walt Disney World---it would spontaneously combust by being in the proximity of so much pixie dust.

I personally think that both Les Chefs de France and Kona Cafe don't get enough credit. They're both consistently good and very pleasant.

I would love to hear about Chefs de France!

the captains grill and gran floridian cafe are two of the best meals we had on our recent trip. both were recomennded by concierge:and totally appreciated by this family.

CRT is absolutely over rated. While the atmosphere is excellent and walking up the stairs into the castle is memorable the food is the PITS. We paid OOP to eat here during our anniversary trip and actually left there and went and got food from Casey's. It was very disappointing.

The Bakery on the boardwalk does not get the attention that it deserves. It is terrific for grabbing quick breakfasts, snacks, etc.

Oh and I forgot to add the counter service fish place in the UK (EPCOT)...the fish and chips are amazing!!
