First time going in September. I know it will be HOT and humid so I will be taking shorts, tanks and sandals. What are your suggestions for the best material for wicking moisture?
I am a big believer in TechWick and microfiber products. They wick away moisture so you don't get sticky or get chaffing. Techwick can be found at EMS in various styles and colors. I wore it on my last trip in September and will be wearing it again this September on my Disneymoon.
We don't wear sandals when we are touring the parks/doing a lot of walking in the heat. We always wear cotton socks and sneakers, and light cotton summer clothes. We have been there 2 times in Sept. and it is super hot.
Give Target a try. Go to their athletic wear department and look for Champion brand "duo dry" moisture wicking clothing. They sometimes even carry Champion moisture wicking underwear (in the lingerie department). This stuff is great. Give it a try!
Great tips - I'm going to have to check them out. We, too, are visiting the World in late August/early September. I haven't figured out just how I'm going to handle the heat (the heat, my God, the heat! - Elaine Benes, Seinfeld).
When we last visited WDW in November 2004, Orlando was experiencing a heat wave. The temps were in the high 80s, low 90s. It wasn't as bad as the same temps here in the Midwest, even with the humidity in FL.
What are the temps in Orlando for early September? The almanacs indicate low 90s. Is that pretty accurate?
Yes, it will probably be in the 90's, but we're hoping for 70's Wear light colored, light weight clothing. I learned a long time ago not to wear dark t-shirts.
Hubby and I were just there September of 2008 and let's just say I discovered all kinds of wonderful places I never knew I could sweat in
My biggest life saver was socks, lots and lots of socks. For 10 nights I went with 20 pairs and two pair of sneakers. We would go back to the room for our midday break and change into dry socks and sneakers
WOW, I didn't realize September could be so hot! This will be our first time there in Sept. We went in '07 for Halloween and it was pleasant not too hot and not cold.
Great tips from everyone. I may have to stock up on those shirts for my boys and love the idea about extra socks and sneakers!! It's amazing what you learn on these boards...I'm so addicted!
We're going in Sept for the first time too, and although we're used to heat living in Arizona, it's a dry heat here. The humidity will probably be a shock to our systems LOL!
Does anyone know if there is any Disney themed athletic wear that wicks away the moisture? We like to dress in Disney themed clothing if we can.
My advice would be to avoid cotton as much as possible. The newer moisture wicking fabrics are so much better in the heat, especially if you are one that sweats a lot or if you get wet on a ride.
The same goes for socks. Cotton socks do not pull the moisture away from your feet the same way a moisture wicking material will - which is a great way to get blisters.
You can buy moisture wicking clothing at just about any running store or athletic store like Dick's or Sports Authority. Target also has great moisture wicking clothing. You don't have to buy the most expensive brands to get good performance.
Don't forget a sweater or if you want something smaller to carry around in a backpack, a large casual scarf to wrap around your shoulders for the air conditioned restaurants! I hate being cold while I'm eating!! Other than that, tanks and shorts!
Under Armour makes really good moisture wicking socks, and durable to boot. I have had one particular pair for almost three years now and they just take a beating and keep on ticking Granted they are a bit pricey but so worth it. I do believe pretty much all the major athletic footwear and apparel manufacturers make moisture wicking socks. Good luck.
