Best treatment for tired park feet and sunburn?

A spouse with willing and strong hands !

I like the cut of your jib! :lmao:

Seriously though, DH and I do massage each other's feet at the end of a long day even at home, so bringing along some peppermint foot lotion sounds divine! Adding it to my packing list...

The best preventative treatments we've used is spraying our feet with aerosol deodorant. It really works!

But if you don't do that...I found some peppermint foot spray that is supposed to relieve and revive tired feet. At least, it works for me at work.

And aloe is the best thing for a sunburn, as well as ibuprofen.

I'm not a nurse...I just play one at work.

I have heard several times on this board to change shoes each day. Is this really something that works?

What about changing socks half-way through the day? Would that help any?

Also, please tell me more about putting deodorant on your feet? What does this do?

Cant really say about the feet though I've found rubbing the bottom of mine to relieve pain at times.

But as far as sunburns, if you can get your hands on some vinegar than that will help. Mix it with water and soak the towels in it and apply to the affected areas. My Mom started using it after her blue lights and it works like a charm. Not sure if it will take the redness away really (Mom has to stay in blackout conditions for 48 hours post treatment so I cant say if it will help much with the skin color) but it does help absorb heat (trust me I've used it for sunburns, you will feel the heat from the burns on the towels after there used). They smelled funky but they do work I swear.

It keeps your feet from sweating and keeps them dry. We found out about it many, many years ago and we swear by it!

We wear hats, so we don't tend to burn at WDW. I have gotten some nasty burns before at other locations. The aloe lotion helps me once I get rid of the heat/burn, but first I use tea bags to stop the burn. Here is some info:

As for the feet hurting, we switch shoes every other day. We also bring dry socks to change throughout the day. Another thing my mom and I do is go to the spa for a soothing and tired legs treatment midway of the trip.

definitely change socks mid day if you go back to the hotel (or carry an extra pair) but I tend to do sneaker in the morning and good flip flops (like tevas) at night - or vice versa - just so I'm not in the same shoes all day long. I don't rotate my sneakers though, only because I run in them at home, and I know they are comfy and won't cause me trouble. My dh wears the same pair daily, but again he also runs in his at home so he knows they're fine for daily use.

My best tips are:

Sunburn:
Bring a long sleeved light-weight shirt with you to Disney. If you start to burn, you can wear it over your summer clothes to keep it from getting worse. If you do get a bad burn, wearing a tight fitting t-shirt works well. It acts as a temporary "skin" that moves with you. A loose fitting shirt on the other hand, will brush over the super-sensitive skin causing pain. Wear the tight shirt under your normal clothes and when sleeping.

Feet:
Before trip prep:
Stand as much as practical. Put your laptop on a counter, bar height table, or in a pinch an ironing board. Force yourself to stand to use it as much as possible. Your arches and ligaments will stretch some as it adjust to holding you up. This causes a lot of pain initially. It will be gone in about 6-8 hours of standing. Better to put yourself through this before you leave.

On your trip:
Follow the following mantra:
Don't stand when you can lean on something.
Don't lean when you can sit.
Don't sit when you can sit with your feet up.

It's easy to just stand and wait while someone else is shopping or in the restroom, but finding a place to sit or a wall to lean on might mean less foot trouble later in the day. Is it worth it to stand in a 30 minute line at the turnstiles in the morning just to get in a few minutes before others? Or, might it be better to sit on a bench and wait for the turnstiles to open and then find the shortest line? Alternately, you could take turns having one of your party wait in line while the rest sit.

Lastly, avoid overdoing it early in the trip. If you get to a point where your feet hurt even while you're sitting you're overdoing it. There just isn't enough time overnight for your feet to recover - though the lotion, massage, and ice bath could help. Later in the trip, it won't be an issue - they'll just hurt some and you'll be used to it. It's like having a annoying headache and to be honest, I've never left Disney without a footache. :)

I have never heard of peppermint foot lotion. Where can I find it?

Also to help with sore feet, I start walking a few miles a day at least a month before our WDW trips. I can really tell the difference during our Disney trips when I start walking beforehand. It helps me a lot.

For feet, as others have mentioned, I use a cold soak in the tub, followed by tennis ball to the bottom of the feet, followed by resting with feet elevated. I also swear by my yoga toes--they look a bit like the things you put between your toes to let nail polish dry, but they're designed to help stretch your feet. Works wonders for sore, tired feet and can be found in most drug stores.

With sunburn, your absolute best bet is prevention--apply sunscreen everywhere, making sure you apply well under the lines of your clothes to account for clothing shifting as you walk. Use a Q-tip to apply sunscreen to the part in your hair. Reapply throughout the day, especially if you're sweating a lot. Aloe and ibuprofen can only do so much to relieve sunburn pain, and they do nothing to actually repair the damage done to your skin.

This is what I do. Just one or two buckets of ice from the ice machine and a tub of water and it makes a WORLD of difference before bed.

This is my favorite remedy for tired feet too. Along with Advil PM.
The peppermint spray sounds wonderful, where and what kind does everyone get?\
I do also like to change shoes, I alway start in tennis shoes but carry my Croc flip flops in my bag for later in the day/night.

Being an Irish girl I never get sunburn, Mama didn't let us out of the house without sunscreen a habit I've taken into adulthood.

BTW - buffettgirl I'm also a parrothead

Big hats, Sunblock (not Sunscreen), Aloe Vera, Motrin, Bengay, ice-packs, New Balance brand tennis shoes switched up with BORN sandals, and arch inserts for my Plantar fasciitis.

I'm allergic to so much that I mostly usual natural remedies. For sunburn (I'm a fair red head so I can get burned in under 5 minutes!) I use a cold tomato. Cut in half and rub it over the burnt area. You'll get a slight "sting" from the cold but it wil cool your skin instantly, soothe it and stop peeling. Unlike the lotions which you often feel worse after if the skin it still hot, this will keep the skin cool and it stays that way. Repeat after 3-4 hours if necesary. Don't worry about wiping off any excess juice but you can take off the seeds.

WDW really is like a marathon. Walking to 'train' months in advance. Cold, hot relief. Do we recommend carb loading too? hehe.

In the past, I liked soaking my feet in warm water, but I think I will do the ice bucket trick mentioned by others on here. I am also going to pay attention to the 'recommended show' threads that pop up on the Dis often. I have sneakers and crocs, but maybe will try something else. I also like the suggestion of changing socks.

And the PP mentioned the yoga toe separators. Those do work wonders!

Haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been suggested.

My sister got an awful sunburn as a teenager. One thing that helped was to use wet tea-bags on the sunburned skin. Apparently there's something about the tannins in the tea that really help sooth the skin. You could get some tea bags from the hotel's food court (or buy a box at the hotel gift shop, if available). Wet the tea bags and rest them on the skin.

I also used to use Solarcaine for sunburned skin. It has a numbing property that really helps. That, in addition to aloe, really seems to help.

For tired and sore feet I bring along my personal massage therapist. Honestly, I would never think of traveling without her. This is just one of the perks of marrying a Massage Therapist. :cool1:

The peppermint foot cream and spray that I use is from The Body Shop. Any other brands that folks recommend?

For sunburn, I love to toss one of Bath and Body Works' cooling mists in my park bag (they've been discontinued, but you can still find plenty of them on eBay,) They're a scented aloe spray that feels AMAZING when it's hot out and helps heal your burn.

For tired feet, we got Mary Kay peppermint pedi products and mixed and matched throughout the week. (We had peppermint foot bath fizzes, foot balm and lotion) and they felt so good!
