Best transportation option to Legoland?

After 4 trips to WDW, we want to mix it up a bit. Considering a split stay at US/WDW, with a day at Legoland thrown in. Right now I am thinking arrive Nov.26, 2 nights at Universal onsite, then on to POFQ for 6 nights.

When would be the best time to go to Legoland, and how should we get there? I was thinking of going either the 27th or 28th (while we are staying at Universal) since dining won't be included there like we will have at Disney.

Should we rent a car or take a shuttle? We are a family of 2 adults, 2 kids.

I am not sure where Legoland is........All I remember is the Lego Store At DTD, but i think that's gone.

We are going in August. I looked into renting a car for the day and was shocked how expensive it is. We decided to use Happy Limo. Since you are at Universal I'm not sure what would be cheaper. You could ask for a quote, and there is a $5 coupon from mousesavers.com. Enterprise might be another option. We aren't to familiar with Winter Haven area and didn't want to worry about directions.

The Lego store at DTD is alive and well and just had an upgrade last year. Legoland is in Winter Haven and very easy to get to if you're driving yourself. It's not a big city just a rural town area. There's plenty of signs and you can google map it.
