best tips for selling a car?

my dh got a new job and a car comes with it, so we are going to sell either mine or his (need to crunch the numbers a bit). according to bluebook, mine (a 2004 odyssey in good shape with low miles) should be around $14k.

any tips on selling a car?

You could always try Carmax for a guaranteed, quick sale. We had time to wait though, so we placed an ad on autotraders.com. It did take around 3 months to sell- we were about to head back to Carmax, but then someone bought it. We did get more money selling it privately, though!

If selling privately

1 Put together a wallet with all the service bills

2 Machine polish the body , clean all the glass and trim the tyre side walls

3 Clean the inside, hang an air freshener under the seat, where it can't be seen

4 If you have smoked in the car, steam clean the roof lining and upholstery

5 Put in some new mats, they only cost a few $ for a full set

6 Clean under the hood

The idea is to make the vehicle look as near to new and someone will buy it without much of a haggle. A clean and good smelling vehicle can be more important than miles on the clock
