Best time to take the I-5 in the morning?

According to google, the house we are staying at is 42 miles from Disneyland and we have to drive on the I-5 and 101 to get there. If we want to be there before opening at 8 am on weekdays, what time should we be leaving? Google says 53 minutes, but not sure that is considering heavy weekday traffic.

It depends on what day of the week, and time of year. However, I would say one word, Early.... Go early and have breakfast or walk around the resorts. The traffic in L.A. can be crazy or completely vacant. Everyday is different. We have been in L.A. at all times of the day and it is always different. It shouldn't take longer than an hour, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry Andrea, I am going to hijack your thread for a minute, as I have a similar question

Any advice on time is takes when traveling from West Hollywood, on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning in the middle/end of September?
Disneyland opens at 10am on those days, we'd like to get be physically at the gates no later than 9:30. How is traffic around then?

No worries Jillian. The place we are traveling from is near West Hollywood anyways I think. And we are traveling Monday-Friday next week, if that helps anyone give any more info. Thanks! I would just like to see rope drop once, and also be able to make it the ST2 Fast passes before the line gets too big.

We drove from W. Hollywood to DL on a Monday am in June. We were planning on leaving at 7:30 am but left closer to 9 am. I think it took us over an hour, maybe 80-90 minutes. Traffic was worse on the 101, then lightened up a bit on the 5 (most commuters are heading north to Downtown LA). But there was traffic- sometimes we completely stopped.
