Best time to ride 7DMT without FP?

Going to Disney in 2 days. Checking the weather forecast, looks like it will rain the day we are scheduled to go to Magic Kingdom. My sister texted me last night wanting to move the FPs because all my 5 year old nephew has been talking about is riding 7DMT and she is worried he won't be able to due to rain.
I think changing days/moving the FPs is a bad idea, because likely all other times are gone this late (there are 6 of us). Also, maybe we will get lucky with weather? It is Florida after all.
However, if we have to go another day without FPs, is morning rope drop or late evening/night better for getting on the ride, without waiting 90 minutes in line? We will be staying on the monorail, so a morning rope drop just for 7DMT is a possibility for us before another park.
Thanks in advance for suggestions!

I can't answer to either RD or park close as the better choice, but I will offer up another option-keep refreshing the app for 7DMT FPs. I was there last Tuesday and Thursday with my wife and son, and although we had an FP for it both days, by refreshing the app now and then we were able to get additional FPs for it. We all rode it 3 times on Tuesday, 4 on Thursday.

I wouldn't change your days. I don't plan on changing mine, and Sunday is the day we're doing MK (with likely rain).

We've often been able to ride 7D twice during the last half hour of operation. Our longest wait ever using this strategy was 20 minutes during opening week in 2014.

We've also found 10 minute waits immediately after fireworks.

I've seen the pictures of the rope drop crowd for this attraction and that seems way to crowded and stressful for me.

My guess would be that rope drop would be better without a FP, but the weather in central Florida seems to be so unpredictable that I wouldn’t change my plans based on the forecast.

Makes sense, will offer this to my sister. I know for me the parades aren't as important, but not sure about the boys

Oh, this is really encouraging, will definitely check it out. Oliver is the only boy out of the three that would really want to go on it, so even if we could just get a couple FPs. Thanks!

rope drop would probably be your best bet. but you have to line up reallyyyy early!

That's what I figured, especially with dining options in park before rope drop.

Exactly, too much planning went into this to move the whole day. Hope you have a wonder Sunday at MK as well :)

Will have to gauge the group for this one, but I had a feeling that might be the case. Thanks for the tip.

Exactly, sunny one minute and thunderstorms the next.

I’d look into EMM for your sister and her son. That would be $140, but it would guarantee (or as much as it can) 7dmt, and that way the rest of you can hook up with them after.

It’s not s perfect solution, but it might be worth the cost if everyone is worried about it.

We did RD last year and were the second ones on the ride. We got to MK at least an hour before park opening (I can't remember exactly how early). It was just DH and I so we were easily able to jog to the right of the castle where the CMs are waiting in a line. We then walked right on their heels to 7DMT and were on the first ride (second row to be exact).
