Just curious what does everyone think is the best week to go in October?! We just came back yesterday :( (12/19) and this morning our whole family decided to go again 2004:bounce:::yes:: . Right now we are looking at October 14th – October 23rd. (My DS birthday is on the 22nd and we wanted to celebrate in style::MickeyMo ).

All advice is welcome!
Thanks in advance.

We went the first week in Oct of 2003. There were no lines at all to the rides and we got to do the MNSSHP the very first night. We have booked our holidays for that week again for 2004. I like the fact you don't have to line up for the rides, you just walk right in!:bounce:

I agree with the posters above. Remember, Disney extended the Epcot Food & Wine festival to the beginning of October, running thru mid-November. As far as crowds are concerned, I would go with the week before Columbus Day or a week after; the week of Columbus Day coincides with a school vacation in parts of the Southern US, as well as a bank/ school holiday in the UK, so it is a little more crowded.

But, Mickey's Not-so-scary Halloween party is not to be missed, and doing that earlier in the month (any time a week or more priot to actual Halloween) should guarantee a fun more-or-less uncrowded time.

Thanks to everyone that helped, but it seems that ultimately it was the budget decision. I can get HIFS October 15-23 for $89 a night while the week before I cannot get any discounted rates. So we will be celebrating my baby’s 12th b-day with the mouse!

You know, for roughly the same price you could get a studio with kitchenette ar Old Key West, by renting DVC points; and you won't be paying Florida rooms tax on it (saving 11%). Check out the DVC Rent/ Trade board and point calculator (going rate is generally $10 per point). Weeknites run just 8 points per nite; The Fri and Sat nites are on the pricier side (21 pts per nite), but you can do those for cash often, or switch resorts to something cheaper on the weekend. This has the added advantage of putting you on the Disney transport network, lessening the need for a rental car. Plus the kitchenette in the unit saves on stuff like breakfast (Cheerios are much cheaper out of the big box than at the food court:p).

In any case, you might want to do a little research on that, Check out the Mousesavers.com site for the DVC suggestion. Have fun!

Thanks pumpkinboy I will defiantly check it out. The rental car however is a must for us. I hate relying on anyone for my transportation needs, plus we wanted to do Bush Gardens, Sea World and other smaller attraction on our next trip. This past trip we got to do all Disney parks plus both Universal and Islands of Adventure along with some minor attractions such as Medieval Times, Wonder Works, Repleys etc. The free breakfast at HIFS although not best food we ever had saved us a bunch of money by filling us up with fruit, cereal, bagels, toast, etc. However staying at Key West defiantly would have its advantages also. :teeth:
Decisions, decisions but this is the fun part! The planning! ::yes:: :teeth:

It makes sense you could get good rates for that week, as I think the holiday is on the 11th. But you are very early to be doing this so keep an eye on things. I just did a quick check on hotelkingdom for the dates you mentioned, and you can get a 2br villa at Cypresse Pointe for the same $$ or less, or the Hawthorn Suites (which I think is nicer and newer than HIFS) for less. You might want to check them out.

Whatever you choose, good luck & happy planning!
