Best Time to Check for Cancellations???

My son wants to stay at a particular resort for his birthday. It was online until I gave him the time to decide. Now that he has decided, the resort is sold out. What is the best time to check for cancellations? Time of the day? I booked another resort, but he is not too happy and really wants his first choice. I have called 407, looked online, called AAA, and even Expedia. Any Ideas???

We were unable to book either a very, very expensive room or a moderate for our July/August long weekend. After 2 weeks of checking, we decided to call one more time this morning. Suddenly, there were a variety of rooms available. Dh called around 10 this morning (Saturday). Who knows???
