Best time to buy flights for January

On our last Disney trip in January, we purchased direct flights with Southwest for under $200 roundtrip. We purchased in August for our January trip, but we didn’t decide to go until August for that trip. We already know we plan to go again next January. When is the best time to buy air fare? I’m getting nervous because the rates I have seen for Southwest don’t appear to be good deals, although they aren’t for January.

SW currently accepting air reservations through November 3, 2018. On May 31, 2018 they will open schedule for sale through January 6, 2019.

We aren’t planning to travel until 1/12 - 1/19. When will SW release reservations for those dates? Should I even bother waiting for SW? Will the rate be better than what I’m seeing now? At least I know SW will be a direct flight.

Use an app called Hopper. it will keep track of the price and tell u when to buy it.

I would buy flights on Southwest the day they are released. If they go down you can always get a credit. We fly Alaska and they also issue you a credit if the price drops.
