Best time to add on and other questions

I know I want to add on but here is my question. I know I will most likely be wait-listed and I am willing to deal with that. If I want a Sept UY at BWV to go with my current contract, when is the best time to do an inquiry?

Also, I haven't decided on the exact amount of points that I want (but it will most likely be less than 100 so that I can pay cash) but if I do another add on at the same resort they can be used equally, right?

And any idea how much per point for BWV?

Though BWV is a sold-out resort, Disney still occassionally has points available as a result of reacquiring them through right of first refusal as to an owner's resale or foreclosures on loans. I am not sure of the current price but vaguely recall mention that it is in the neighborhood of $101.

There is no good or bad time to buy BWV add-ons from Disney but at any time it just depends on whether there are points available. DVD will sell you points only in your current use year so points in that use year need to be available. Those points will go into your account as additonal BWV points in the same use year and can be mixed, used, banked, or borrowed along with all the other points in your use year. In other words, if you have 200 BWV points and add 100, you will have a total of 300 that can be used together or banked. If you want to buy, you need to call but be prepared to be put on a waitlist, although sometimes you can get them immediately. Delaying calling now simply means you risk any price increase occurring in the future and if there is a waitlist you won't get on it and start the wait until you call.

Other option for BWV points is through resale such as through the Timeshare Store that sponsors this site. You can try to get small contracts in your use year through resale but may face same issue -- a waitlist.

If you are looking to optimize (the largest number of points for the least money) the best time to add on is just a few weeks before the end of your Use Year. Disney gives you current-UY points with an add-on. They have been allowing people to bank those points way past their banking deadline, even if they are just a week away from the end of their UY. They pro-rate your dues starting from the later of your purchase date, the start of your UY and the occupancy date of the Unit (which only matters for resorts under construction such as AKV). With a Sep UY, if you had added on in late August 2008 you would have received a full set of 2007 UY points because you were still in your 2007 UY at that time. Your 2008 annual dues for that add-on would begin on your purchase date. If you purchased on Aug 15 for example, you would have owed approximately 4.5 months worth of dues (Aug 15 - Dec 31). On the other hand if you purchased on Sep 1, 2008 your first set of points would be your 2008 points because as of Sep 1 you are in your 2008 UY. You would have owed 4 months worth of dues (Sep 1 - Dec 31). So in these two scenarios, you pay an additional 2 weeks worth of dues in the first case but you get a full set of 2007 points. In the second scenario, you pay a bit less in dues but you lose out on the 2007 points.

I wouldn't actually advise waiting until 2 weeks from the end of your UY to try to purchase an add on at a sold-out resort because the longer you wait, the greater the chance they will no longer have current UY points left for your UY. In fact, they may not even have any contracts available for your UY (with or without current UY points) so you would want to allow time to be on a waiting list for a few weeks to a few months before your UY runs out.
