Hello to all

While I'm not new to the DIS boards, I am to the DL forum.
My family (DH, myself, DD-11, DS-6 and DD- almost 2 & my DM) is going to DL/DCA mid September and we would like to eat at the Blue Bayou.

My question-- Does anyone know what would be the best time to make PS so that we have the best chance of sitting by the water? Do they have tables for 6 by the water?

I would think that the less busy times would be the best chance to sit by the water , but am not sure what time that would be and would prefer if at all possible, avoiding having to waiting an additional 30-40 minutes with an active toddler, just to sit by the water. I have read on the boards that even when they first open, it can be pretty busy. Are there less busy times?

Many thanks!

To have the least amount of wait time for a waterside table, book the first PS of the day. Either 11:00 or 11:30 is the first PS time. Be in the area early and as soon as they 'open' up, check in and request your waterside table. If you have one of the first PS for the day, you usually have minimal wait time.

If you can't do the first one, do the latest lunch you can. IMO the lunch menu is better than dinner, and less expensive.

You want to be at the beginning or end of the lunch time, when you call for PS they can tell you the specific beginning and ending times for lunch.

You will LOVE Blue Bayou, the atmosphere cannot be beat. It's one of the more "magical" places at DL. The food is pretty good too. The baked apple thing for desert is YUMMY!!!

We booked for 11:30 am. We showed up at 11:05 am on an extremely busy Saturday. We were the third party to check in, and were seated on the water near the center of the rail. Once wasn't good enough, so we also had an 11:30a PS for Sunday. Almost exactly the same experience. This was Memorial Day weekend.

We booked for 11:50 and got there, at 11:50. When we got there I asked for a water table and had to only wait 5 minutes for one. Pretty lucky I thought! From the looks (it's SO dark in there) all the tables were really small. We had 5 people at ours and were squished, but it was fun. I'm a bad eater, and didn't like any of my food, but that's just me!

Wow, I am so sorry, it just sounds like your trip was kind of a bust! I hate to hear that when I know all the effort and $$ that goes into a Disney vacation. I hope your father is better btw. Maybe you will return again for a better experience?

To the OP, I agree with other posters about getting either the first lunch seating available or a very late lunch, just before dinner. Also, show up early for your ps I always think you are likely to get your requests when you show up on time or early, that automatically gets you on the good side of the hostess! One time we wanted to wait for a table at least close to the water. DH took the kids to some of the stores around there and walked around a bit while fil and I waited for a table. As soon as the hostess came and got us I called DH on the cell and he hustled back in about two minutes or less. Our friends went last May and the dad took the girls to Tarzans Treehouse while she waited for waterside seating. I am not sure I would do that because you could be right in the middle of it and not be able to get back quickly, but it worked for them. As for the food, if you like cajun style dishes you should find plenty here. I don't find those dishes to be as spicy as the real thing, probably intentional on Disney's part. They have some other things too, I believe you can go to allearsnet.com and view Disneyland menus under the 5oth anniversary section. I almost always share the famous Monte Cristo with my husband. I have also enjoyed their salads and I agree with Buttercup, that dessert is soooo good! I would imagine that a table for 6 by the water is no problem since they are tables and I believe they can move tables apart or together as need be. Good luck with your planning!

Oh no no no, it was a great trip! I'm just a terribly picky eater so it's hard to please me anywhere :rotfl: If you give me a grilled cheese sandwich I'm thrilled!!! Dustin and my mom liked their monte cristo's though. I was fine being squished together (round table) just to sit on the water, it was great fun to have the people on the boats pass by and yell things at us. The kids got a kick out if it~

Oh, and thanks for asking about my dad. He is doing well now with the meds he is on. He looked great when he picked us up from the airport

Oh I am glad to hear that! The tables at Blue Bayou are always squished, good to go with people you like I always say! DH used to be a picky eater but has gotten better. I am not a picky eater but think grilled cheese sandwiches are the best things on earth! You could do what my dd did, get a Monte Cristo without the ham and turkey!

Thank all of you for the great info and thanks to peachgirl, I will be calling with the next day or two to make a PS for 11:30am or thereabouts at Blue Bayou. That time should work out pretty well for us- that way my dear mom can take my youngest dd back to the hotel with her right after lunch for a little rest since they both still like and need their naps :p .

I am soooo looking forward to the Monte Cristo sandwich. I think it's been close to 6 years since i've had one--- my mouth is watering already!!!

DARN! I could have done that! I did ask if they had a grilled cheese though ;)

What about a grilled cheese WITH ketchup! I have such weird eating habits :rotfl:

I can't wait to try this place. I saw a picture of it and it kind of reminds me of the san angel inn at EPCOT in the Mexican Pavillion at WDW.

I actually thought this very thing when we ate at San Angel Inn last month. I like the food at Blue Bayou better and it isn't as expensive!

Note to Mommy2my2daughters: I LOVE grilled cheese with ketchup! People think its weird but they are just plain wrong!

YAY for the less expensive part! I really like the food at San Angel Inn (but then again, I love Mexican food). I agree it isn't the best Mexican I've ever had, but it's good. I've heard the monte cristo sandwich is fabulous, so I think that's what I'm gonna get.

grilled cheese with ketchup!! One of my favorite sandwiches. I LIVED off of them in college! :earboy2:

Yes, it is defintely cheaper than San Angel if you go at lunch. That is also the only time they serve the Monte Cristo. I thought the food at San Angel was okay but our dinner was over $100 and it wasn't the best. Also, your food cost is lower at Blue Bayou because they don't serve alcohol. And as far as those grilled cheese with ketchup sandwiches not only did they get me through some college days they were one of the few things I could keep down when I was pregnant! Good luck with your Disneyland trip, be sure and let us know how your trip goes!

I was just there on May 31st, had a 1:10 PS, arrived about 1:00 and asked for a waterside table. The CM had a hard time finding my name (?) and forgot to request waterside. They called our name at 1:10, so I checked to see if it was waterside. It wasn't, but we ended seated at a waterside table at 1:15!!
We were at a four-spot table, and there was a two-spot next to us. I'm sure they could easily be combined for six people!

Now, I have a question: Didn't there used to be stars overhead at the BB? My whole family remembered stars and watching a shooting star, but there weren't any there this time.

Wow, even from the other side of the world !! My wife loves grilled cheeseand ketchup ( or tomato sauce as we put it).
