Just returned from WL, our first time to Disney. We had such a super time that we've decided to buy DVC points (at SSR). Have been scanning all the DIS boards and I'm already addicted.

We have four possibilities for a return trip and I wanted to get some expert opinions!! Our possibilities are 4-9 Feb, 11-16 Mar, 25-30 Mar or 20-25 May. Unfortunately, it can only be one of those :)

My DS has his heart set on BCV, he saw the pool!!! Any suggestions on these dates, how busy these times are, what the weather is like, whether we're likely to get in at BCV.

Thanks in advance

Welcome Home!

We were at SSR early Feb this year, great time to go, not crowded, weather was good (great compared to Michigan!), would do it again....

Can't help you on the BCV availability though....

Got a tingle through to me toes, just hearing that!! Its going to be wonderful, and it seems the neighbours are just great :thumbsup2

Thanks for your reply

March dates you may hit some spring break crowds .....also not sure when Easter is next year.....if it's in March .....not a good time for low crowds. End of May is pretty good, but, it will be HOT already by late May.

Easter is the second Sunday in April if I remember correctly. I think your toughest dates might be Mar 25-30. But if you get the SSR points from Disney, you could make a reservation there immediately and then at 7 months try to change it to BCV.

I'd think that the May dates might work best for you since it will be the best swimming weather and avoid spring breaks. I'm assuming that May 28 is Memorial Day, so there's a chance that might book up the week before. But it is school time still for most so hopefully that would work.

If you have your heart set on BCV, then you might try this. Book the February dates at the 7 month mark. I don't think you'll have a problem. Then try for the May dates at the 7 month mark. If they are available, cancel the Feb dates and book May. If not, you've got a fall back plan for February.

I do cringe a bit when I hear words like "heart set" at a non-home resort. Keep in mind that BCV is a pretty small and very high demand resort. Hopefully things will work out for you. :)

Always love to see/hear those words "we decided to buy DVC" You will be so thankful for many years. I think Granny nailed it on all points. Do just what he said.

I agree with the May dates. Weather will be great, and most crowds haven't gotten too bad yet then.

"Heart set" for me and "heart set" for my 7 year old are very different matters :teeth: We have so many years to stay at all the DVC resorts, I don't think it will really bother him if its not immediate. We loved SSR and so did several families that we met. Its not that we are buying JUST to to stay at other resorts and not SSR - (not you Granny!) but there is definitely an implication of this in some of the posts that I have read.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I'm taking it all in. No-one has really talked about March, is it that busy? Is it just when the Florida kids are on Spring Break or all the time because of staggered March breaks?

Spring breaks are staggered, and some weeks are definitely more crowded than others. But in general, March is a pretty crowded time and is probably the toughest to get at the 7 month period of the date slots you mentioned.

And I appreciate you taking my remarks in the way intended. I wasn't being critical...just trying to reinforce that things don't always work out. Since you said that WL was your first trip, and you hadn't made a DVC trip yet, I wasn't sure if you were aware of potential availability issues. I'm sure your son will be tickled to be staying anywhere at WDW (as you will also!). :)

May points are cheaper than March points, and unless you are from WAY up north, you'll probably find it too cold to swim in February.

If you are willing to do the wait list, I doubt you'll have trouble getting the reservation you want.

Welcome Home, and welcome to the DIS!!!

I also, think your best chances for staying at BCV will be the May dates. As others have said, Easter/Spring breaks are very busy times for WDW.
We have been to WDW during every month of the year and May is one of our favorites. Feb and even March can be iffy as far as weather, we have been in WDW during these times and had to buy hats and gloves and then we have been there where we wore nothing but shorts, tee shirts and bathing suits.
May is always warm and sunny. It is hot, but not nearly as hot or humid as July and Aug. The only slightly annoying thing about visiting in May are the infamous love bugs. They are everywhere in both May and Sept. But they really do not bother you, and you gotta admire their perserverance!

I agree with some other Disney people!!!!!EVERY DAY IS A GREAT DAY AT DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

In reality, the times you picked are times we have been there and those a great times. Sometimes it is hot and sometimes it rains and sometimes it is cool......but you are in Disney!!!! And that is all that matters. I do try to avoid gay days and cheerleaders......they are a bit much for me. Other than that, I would go any other time, even the busiest times are great.

Obviously not so infamous - what are love bugs? I'm guessing from what you said that they don't bite?

Well, next thing is to get schedules from my family in the UK. May is certainly tempting but as the temperatures start to drop here in Ottawa, it makes me remember its a REALLY long winter.

Cheers

Love bugs are little insects maybe the size of a lightning bug. They fly around attached to each other as they are doing the, how should I phrase it...the thing that makes them called "Love" bugs.
They are all over the place in FL in May and Sept. They do not bite you, but they will land on you and on everything else, all the while remaining attached to each other.
We have never seen them in any other tropical type climate but FL.
