You get comfortable in your own skin ( but i will add I would rather be uncomfortable and 20)

I'm trying to find something appealing about getting older...but I can't....I want to go back to 25!!!

I love the "us" time now that our kids are grown, the traveling, the quiet dinners, doing what we want, when we want.
The time flew by and our kids grew up too fast for me, but we have wonderful memories of our years as a young family.
We have now grown from a family of 4 to a family of 8 and that's amazing to watch.

**But we are having the best time of our lives.

I'm fortunate enough to have done a lot of cool stuff along the way. My view is that you don't get to have done all that cool stuff and remain 22, and remaining 22 is not an option anyway. Now I have even more time to do the things I enjoy, and these two adorable DGDs come by several times a week to hangout. :cool1:

I guess the BEST thing about getting old to me is that I can go back to WDW (if I'm not living off of cat food) to feel young and my family would go with me. I am not dealing with aging well, at all. Will be 55 this summer and absolute sadness occurs when I think about that number getting bigger and bigger. I remember always hearing "you have the rest of your life" for whatever...yeah, none of those boxes have gotten checked off for the most part. Now if you were given a freebie from your bucket list with each year? I "might" feel different...ughh, why did I open this thread? :sad2:

The best thing about getting old for me is the increased freedom and time to do what I want, with the people I want! Less stress, less worry.

The kids are all grown up and can look after themselves. And they've turned out great!

My husband and I can disappear for a "nap" any time we want. We don't have to arrange for a babysitter just to spend time alone with each other. We can eat whatever we like. We can hop in the car and take off for the weekend to visit friends, any time we want. We can go to Disney World for ten days, just the two of us! It's like we've rewound back to the first days we ever met, courting each other all over again.

Money is less of a worry (we've been very fortunate in that respect), than it was when we were young. We're planning for my husband's retirement now - lots of travel!

The only shadow on our present situation is that my husband's mum is dying. But we've done this before - his dad died when our kids were very young (I was still in my 20's). And, it's no harder to manage the impending death of a loved one now than it was fifteen years ago.

Overall, I'd say that these are definitely the best years of our lives, and I hope to enjoy many more like this. :cloud9:

I feel like at 43, I am more comfortable with who I am. I am able to travel more, and parenting is more fun that the kids are older and need less constant attention (night time parenting for instance). I don't like the wrinkles and the feeling that half of my life is over.

Those extra ten pounds don't matter as much as they once did any more. You don't worry about the small stuff any more or what other people think (although to be fair, I'm a child of the 70s who grew up in NM, I never really cared what other people thought to start with).

No you won't. You'll be forty-fifteen.
