Has anyone eaten at California Grill for Thanksgiving and what did you think? Where else would be good? We like good meals and my DH loves a good selection of wine.

Here's the background.

We've suddenly decided to forego our plans to go west for Thanksgiving and made reservations this week for WDW. My husband is ditching his parents for the Old Spice Basketball tournament - unbelieveable. While DH worries about how and what he's going to tell them...I've already started agnozing over Thanksgiving Day ressies. I want to be ready on the 180th day with my plan.

Two years ago we planned our trip late and ended up at the GF with Cinderella and the mice. My DH tells everyone who will listen about the time he ate Thanksgiving Dinner with rodents. So clearly I have to do better this time.

What else is really good on Thanksgiving outside of the parks or in the resorts? We won't plan to be in a park on Thanksgiving Day. It doesn't have to be a traditional meal (or maybe I should ask my teens) - but it has to be good food.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Liberty Tree Tavern has an exellent Thanksgiving Feast, however i would not classify it as "high end" dining. It's great though and the food portions are terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed the Pilgrims Feast and highly recommend it.

So I've seen on the boards that Liberty Tree is one of the more traditional?

I just don't think I want to venture into the MK that day/night.....but maybe we'll just go in for dinner, ride Thunder MTN and then go back to the resort. Or maybe we should ride first and then eat!:rotfl:

Other ideas?

liberty tree does have a good feast, however remeber this is mk and is a non alcholic park.So no merlot for him....

Oh dear.....I've made it sound like he won't go anywhere without wine? Well -it's pretty close to the truth I guess. Maybe we have to go offsite for the day. Eeek. We've never done that. It is kind of weird when you think about it. When we travel to other cities here or abroad we spend days researching restaurants in that city. We don't have a clue about anything in Orlando - because we never leave the parks.

And where are my manners. Thank you raven69david for your post....and thank you DISNEY FIX for the bump. I guess folks aren't thinking about Thanksgiving yet - or they have their fav already.

I did a search before I posted the thread and looked thru at least 100 posts and couldn't find a link to last year's discussions. I know in 2006 that there were lots of threads - it's just that I looked at them in August 2006 when it was too late to get what you wanted.

Oh well......maybe in a week or so.

Here is a link from the Dining link at the top of the board in the blue box.

That is from 2007, but it will give you an idea of which restaurants had a traditional T-day meal in addition to or in place of their regular menu. I hope it helps you a little, we're going for Thanksgiving too, and right now our plan is to have dinner at Boma.

Last Thanksgiving I left doing our ADR a bit late and found it hard getting in anywhere. Not being American I was not all that interested in a traditional dinner so our options were slim. We lucked out and got into the Flying Fish.

Well I got the time wrong and we turned up an hour late but the staff were great and got us a table within 5 minutes. The food and service was superb.

We are currently planning a return trip to WDW and I asked 2 DD and DW which restaurant they wanted to go back to and all 3 said the Flying Fish.

Thanks bigbabyblues...that link is very helpful and I had not stumbled upon it. Since we haven't been to WDW since 2006 I'm a bit out of practice. I enjoyed reading thru all the menus from 2006. I do have a couple of favorites based on those menus. I think I'll let my older teens, DH and my sister take a look at them.

That was a great help.

Thanks also DizOz. We usually eat once per trip at the Flying Fish when we stay at BW or BCV.

07' was our first thanksgiving in the park, and I questioned where to eat. We finally decided not to do the mk, due to crowds > so we spent the day at mgm & had dinner at 50's prime time. They had a regular feast, and very homey;) It was packed so a very popular choice.

Good luck, I found picking the days activities lead to our dinner choice. It worked out great, we where very happy with the family atmosphere of 50's Prime time cafe. The studio's where so / so busy and it was a nice day.

Yes, you can have a wine there too.

Have a great time, mky:cutie:
