My mother's nutritionalist has recommended adding protein powder to her drinks. She eating so little due to the cancer and associated treatments that her body was eating its own lean muscle. :sad1:

We've found that she actually likes the Boost fruit juice :yay: but we're hoping to get her protein up to 90g a day.

The nutritionalist said the hardest part of this would be finding one that tasted all right. I'm going to go to the health food store and ask for samples, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be most grateful.

I've used protein powder in the past, but I'm sorry I don't remember the brand name. I did buy most of mine from Hi Health. If you have a store in your area I would check with them, maybe they can sample for you, or ask at one of the juice places what kind they use. I seem to remember one that was vanilla flavored, was really yummy in orange juice. Good luck!

As already seen here it is really a matter of personal preference. What one person loves another may hate. You probably need to find samples to try.

I like a GNC house brand called Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein. It comes in tons of different flavors.

Do a Google Search for Protein Powder Samples and you will find lots of websites where you can order multi packs--most are related to bariatric diets. It is expensive but a full container is an expensive investment if she won't drink it.

Also take a look here for hundreds of recipes with protien powder: http://freeproteinshakerecipes.com/ . Sometimes just some extra flavors or some frozen fruit can make a powder shake go down much easier!

Forgot to mention that they have Juice versions of them that may help if she doesn't like the texture/taste of the shakes.

Please have her try this : syntrax nectar Roadside Lemonade!! It tastes JUST like country time lemonade! You can order it online from numerous places. they also have many flavors to try that are like drinking juice. this one is the most non tasting like a protein drink I have found, and I have tried a lot of them! 23 g's of protein in 8 oz of drink.

I am a smoothie drinker and use different flavored protein powder in them. I have found the best tasting to be Muscle Milk. They have a LOT of flavors (Blueberry, Strawberry, Chocolate, Rootbeer float, etc).

My two favorite shakes are:

1. Frozen blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. A berry based 100% fruit juice like cherry, pomegranate, or a blend. Mint Chocolate Protein Powder.

2. Frozen Pineapple, mango, Papaya. A tropical based 100% fruit juice like Papaya or even Apple. Vanilla protein powder and cinnamon or Muscle Milk Cinnamon Bun protein powder.

The mint works really well with the berries and brings out the blueberry flavor a lot and the cinnamon adds a lot to the tropical ones. You can experiment but adding peanut butter, yogurt, even oatmeal.

Tastes are different though so what tastes good to one person may not to another. I have found a lot of trial and error is involved.

Thank you very much. :flower3: I have made a list of everything and we'll just try them all, one by one, until we find something that she likes. We'll probably start with ones that can be mixed into a juice and go from there as she can tolerate the Boost juice.
