Wanted to get some input and previous experiences that y'all might have had. We will be at WDW in July this year. We are taking advantage of the Disney+ free dining and will have the QS plan.
Me and my DH decided to go off plan and do a table service for each of our kids. My DD was fairly easy because she is all things Disney princess. We will do CRT or Akershus for her.
I would ask my son where he wants to eat for his table service, but this trip will be a surprise for his Birthday, and we do not plan on telling him till we leave.
My Son loves to eat (he says that's his favorite part of Disney.) ... and is willing to try new things but can still be somewhat little kid picky. This will be his first trip where he is older and can eat the adult meals.
I think he still likes Mickey and Friends (even though he would say no) but i want this pick to feel like it is more catered to him and not just two for my daughter.
We don't necessarily have to do a characters meal. I think he would enjoy something where the waitstaff is interactive.
i was thinking possibly Roundup Rodeo as well.

Does anyone have any advice on what their preteen enjoyed? Thanks!!

Rodeo Roundup was fun. Space 220 is more interesting than delicious, but worth doing once. It was totally lost on my (extremely picky) 11 year old but my son (14) asked to repeat it. He wants to go to a steakhouse next time.

Honestly at 11 my son loved Sci Fi diner.

The three best meals I have eaten at Disney were at Jiko, Tiffins, and Flying Fish but if he’s little kid picky they can get pricey.

Space220?
I definitely have thought of this one!! Just unsure if I could be able to nab it or not! I wish there was a Star wars table service.. or a marvel one! I understand the issue with marvel at WDW... but more things catered to that age group would be awesome!!

Not a meal but has your son been to Oga’s they have some fun non alcoholic drinks and if he enjoys Star Wars he might enjoy it.

When my DS was 12, he enjoyed Coral Reef (although he was quite picked then and wanted the Mac n cheese from the kids menu). He also liked 50’s Prime Time, Sci FI Diner, and Skipper’s Canteen. He’s definitely didn’t care for the character meals at that age. He’s 20 now and probably would Probably like them more now than he did then!😂

I second Oga's! We took our 11 year old son this past September and he still talks about his drink and wants to go back, and he's not even the biggest Star Wars fan. His pick (the Carbon Freeze) had boba pearls and was served bubbling. He was highly impressed!

We will have to check it out! Do you make reservations? My son’s favorite drink was the drink with boba pearls at pandora. So I’m sure he’ll love that one as well!

My sons at that age preferred Whispering Canyon, which on a good night can be a lot of fun. Similar to prime time but less reliant on the 50's culture references. Sci-fi is iconic because of the old sci-fi movies and car seating. Boma is great for the food and the savanna.

Yep, you can make an ADR for it. Yes, what is it with boba and this age group, lol? I hope you all have a great time on your trip!

I'd try Sanaa at AKL. My picky kids still managed to find something there...unless you're using the DDP and are restricted to the adult meals.

I'm thinking of places where we took my picky MIL that she liked. Le Cellier, sure it's loud and cramped but I've never had a bad filet there and it's not that much more expensive than the high end steak houses where I live. Teppan Edo (although I don't like doing this one, I can get a better experience where I live). Liberty Tree Tavern. Topolinos.

I'll definitely check into it! We are on the DDP, but are on the Quick service one. So we were just going to do this separate. I would have scrapped the dining plan all together, but i did the free dining with the Disney + deal and was hard to pass up!
