I'm 42 years old, but in the summer my skin is an oil slick, especially on my forehead and nose.

What is the best sunscreen and makeup to wear to WDW in the horrible heat of August that will keep me from looking too oily? I rarely take pictures of myself and was looking forward to getting some photopass pictures with me in it, but I won't like them if I look all shiny. That plus I hate it when my glasses start to slide down my nose from the oil.

I need a high SPF for my face because I have rosacea and the sun makes it worse and also I see a couple of age spots starting to form. :scared: I'd like to keep those away!:lmao:

Try one of the mineral foundations (Bare Minerals, Sheer Cover, Neutrogena); they are great for coverage. They are not as heavy as regular foundations and most of them (Bare Minerals for certain) now contain SPF. I use Oil of Olay daily moisturizer with SPF every day and then use the minerals foundation from Philosophy (the Supernatural), which I like the best because there are no brushes (so minimal spillage! ). My skin used to be very oily, but has gotten drier as I have aged, so I can relate to your issues!

Other than the mineral foundations, my suggestion is to keep makeup to a minimum. I usually just wear a light dusting of the minerals and a couple of coats of mascara.

For an excellent sunscreen, look at the Neutrogena products. They offer a "dry" SPF 45 sunscreen that is non-oily. They also have a cooling sunscreen that you can spray on; it drys fast and provides a quick cool-down! :thumbsup2

I am also 42 & have the same skin conditions you have. I have used BeautiControl products for years. My foundation is oil free, very light & SPF
15. They are sold online or through "consultants". I think the web page is www.beautipage.com. When we are at the parks, I usually use just the foundation to put a little color in my face for the SPF protection. HTH!

Thank you both. I'll check into them.

I already use the Neutrogena "dry" sunscreen, but I don't know, it doesn't look very dry after a while. I was at Six Flags last week and it wasn't even THAT hot and when I looked in the mirror in the ladies room, my face was all greasy anyway. Maybe the SPF is too high and maybe the SPF in the other foundations you mentioned would be better. I'll be wearing a hat for sure most of the time anyway.

I would recommend a foundation base (oil free) and that will help to keep you oil free and then put your foundation over the top.

We use Neutrogena SPF 45 and my DH especially loves it. He said we finally got a product that isn't oily looking on his face.

If you get oily after a while perhaps it's not the product but just that you are naturally oily like me. I get oily no matter what I use. I always find myself blotting my face at every chance I get!

You really do need a good sunblock when going to WDW, and never rely on the SPF that is found in your moisturizer and makeup. I read this on one of my favorite blogs www.makeupbag.net - You aren't really protected by the SPF in your makeup and moisturizer. It's like going out in the pouring rain with a newspaper over your head. You NEED a seperate (stable) sunblock. A good sunblock is like a going out in the rain with a huge umbrella.

Shiseido SPF 55 lotion is perfect for oily skin and has a high PPA factor. It absorbs oil and acts as somewhat of a foundation primer. Most importantly, it's stable. That means it doesn't deteriorate quickly. An unstable sunblock, and there are a LOT of unstable sunblocks on the market, is like going out in the rain with a newspaper, not an umbrella. There are many sunblocks out there that lose their PPA factor (UVA protection) within minutes of being exposed to sunlight. UVA's are what cause the most skin damage because they affect the epidermis where new skin is created. If you need more info on stable sunblocks, check out the skincare board on makeupalley.com There is a list on there that tells you which sunblocks have the highest PPA ratings and whether or not the sunblock is stable.

Oil blotting papers and blot powder are great for cleaning up mid-day "oil spills." MAC makes a great blot powder!

If any of you find a product that REALLY works please let me know! I tried Bare Minerals and it looked just as oily and shiny as my regular Clinique foundation. I have tried TONS of things that "absorb" oil, give a "matte" finish, blah blah blah and NONE of them work. At WDW last August my face was shiny in all of the photos except the ones where I JUST powdered my face before the shot. I blot and re-powder all day long.:sad2:

I will be 37 tomorrow, and my skin has been oily my whole life. Sunscreen makes it look even more oily, which I didn't think was possible!:scared: I try to find make-up with an SPF so I am not trying to apply make-up over sunscreen. That just makes a big sticky mess.:rotfl2:

Buy Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. They are about $5.99 at drugstores and they work wonders for removing oil from your face. I use them all the time. My skin is very oily too. The package is small and easily fits into a purse or pocket. Just take a sheet, blot it on your face, then throw it out. Then you are pretty and oil free for all ride and family photos! :woohoo:

I second the idea of using oil blotting papers! I use Clean and Clear brand (you can buy them at any drug store). They're about $5 for 50, and are wonderful for soaking up excess oil. Rather than adding another layer of make-up (which mixes with the oil on your face), they take away all the oil! I'm 45 and still have a very oily T-zone, and I use them every day.

Regarding a facial sunscreen with high SPF, I use Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer with SPF 45 when I know I'm going to be spending time in the sun. Since it's a moisturizer with SPF (instead of a typical sunscreen), it has a moisturizer-like texture and doesn't feel "sunscreeny." It comes in untinted and tinted versions.

If you don't like the Neutrogena moisturizer, try the ones by Aveeno or Purpose that are "redness reducing" and are for sensitive skin. If you have rosacea, these might work better for you. I have ruddy skin but don't have rosacea, and think they help with the pinkness. I use the one by Purpose on the days when I'm planning to be indoors - it has a nice texture and has an SPF 30. They Aveeno one is nice, too. Both are quite reasonably priced (I actually found the Purpose brand at Big Lots on clearance - it was only $3 a bottle, so I bought all they had!).

Good luck!

Foundation primer with a mattifier (sp?) in it or an oil control gel if you're not using foundation. It's a thin, clear gel that you apply over your oily spots. MAC makes a great one, and Cornsilk makes a decent one. If you apply the gel once every 4-6 hours, it'll help out a lot. If blotting paper and blot powder are like deoderant (it just covers up the problem), think of the oil control gel as an anti-persperant (it prevents a problem from every occuring).
Also, look for a physical sunblock, not a chemical sunblock. Most people find that physical sunblocks look chalky on them, but I think it might help make you look a little more matte while giving you UVA/UVB protection. I am pretty sure that all physical sunblocks are stable, too!

For makeup if you want powder try Everyday Minerals. They do offer protection from the sun and the makeup won't cause blemishes. Free samples available as well.

I also agree with the other posters on the Clean n Clear Oil removing sheets. They work wonderfully and are light to carry around.

The best sunscreen we have discovered, we actually bought at our resort in Florida and now find ourselves stocking up on it every time we are down there. It is not oily and works great and doesn't have a bunch of chemicals in it that block up the skin. The after care lotion is also great too. We bought it at HGVC Sea World but you can also buy it from the products website, and probably at other places in Florida.

I come from a long line of people with oily skin on my dad's side. So far, the best thing I have found to help me is Proactive sheer mattifying finish gel. It really absorbs the oil and makes your makeup stick. It is pretty pricey, I wanna say around $14-15 per tube, but to me it's worth it..not sure if you have to be a member or not...I did use Proactive for acne, but was not impressed with it at all, so I cancelled my subscription..anyways, good luck!

Hmm. There is a cart at the mall that sells ProActive so I can check to see if they have it. My friend also said her DS is using that line for acne so she could probably order it for me if I can't find it.

I have "pore minimizer" and one other oil control thing from Clinique but they just don't work! I have wasted a ton of money on products that don't work, so $15 for something that does work (heck, even if it just HELPS) would be great!

OKay I am 33 same type of skin. I get very oily and when its hot its even worse! First of all avoid Bare Minerals. I dont care who swears by it its bad for very oily skin. As far as the blotting papers go , yes they are great. BUT Paper towels do the same thing. Even the kind in the restrooms work. The only difference is that some of the blotting papers have a powder on them . But once the oil is absorbed you can use your own powder anyway. And the reason the oil blotting papers impress people is you can really see the oil being absorbed onto the paper because its very thin. But trust me a paper towel does the same thing.

If you skin is really oily you will have to do a major wipe down of your face 1/2 way through the day. Blotting papers and more powder dont make you feel so clean and only help for a short time.

Here is what I do . Your eyemakeup can stay in place and you wont have to do more than blot a tissue on it and repowder being careful to avoid mascara. Lips always need redoing oily or not so that wont matter. But your skin can get a complete wipe down and be remade in no time.

If you have 2 minutes you can do this. I know it sounds crazy... But I swear by regular huggies babywipes. NO other brand works the same! I wipe around my T zone and it sucks all the oil off my face and leaves no grease at all behind. I leave my eye and lip makeup in place and wipe down the skin around them and then quickly reapply my concealer and blush and powder.

If you dont have time , or dont want to redo your face ,you can leave your makeup untouched and do this. Bring a small baggie or container with a cotton ball soaked in seabreeze or some other face astringent. You can leave all of your makeup in place and literally blot over blush , conceler and everything without removing any make up. It will just suck up the oil. Then you can repowder without getting that yucky cakey look. Plus you feel so much fresher. You can blot with a paper towel as well if you like .

I have done tv and stage work and I cant tell you how embarrassing my oily skin can be at times. I have learned how to fix it fast without drawing attention. So I am sure its stuff you can do quick in a bathroom without drawing notice.

Also while I do have some pricey makeup items I still love my cheapo Maybelline Shine Free pressed powder. It never gets cakey on me and I have had some expensive powders do just that. Just with oily skin always buy 1 shade ligher than your own tone. That way it wont ever get orange on you. Not that this one ever has . But with any powder and oily skin that helps.

I could have written this word for word except that I just turned 36. BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday to you, too!!

Cinderella73 - I have blotting sheets but have noticed that a paper towel works just as well!:rotfl2:
I will try the trick with the cotton ball and the astringent! I can't really buy powder one shade lighter since my skin is the same color as the lightest shade! I did just get some new powder that is colorless. The sales associate said it won't turn orange. If it does I will be returning that powder.

I was reading a review on makeupalley.com the other day. I forgot what product I was reading about, but remember a member saying that the best thing to make your skin smooth for under mineral makeup and to keep oil off too was to apply milk of magnesia or Monistat antichafing gel as a makeup primer. It sounded funny at first, but then after thinking about it, it made sense. I haven't tried either though.
