Going to Disneyland instead of Disneyworld this year. My grandparents lived in Anaheim so I spent many, many summers at Disneyland and am pretty familiar with the area. But I haven't been there in about 20 years!

Is June, July or August better? We can go during the week instead of weekends. But are any one of the summer months better to avoid crowds, or are they all about the same? I know to avoid holidays also. Learned my lesson a few years ago on Easter at Disney World!!

I read through many of the posts to get so good ideas and suggestions. I noticed that a lot of people like the Candy Cane Inn and I can remember driving past that place. It was really cheesy and had bright huge candy canes out front and was kind of dumpy! Now you have to remember that I haven't been there in 20 years, so I got on their website and was happy to see it is really updated! I know some things change and some things don't, but I thought that was kind of funny remembering that hotel!

Thanks for any helpful hints you can give me!

Just like WDW, early in June or late in August will cut the crowds, since schools start at all different times nowadays.

Mid-week is always better, but summer is summer, KWIM?

We've been there literally every month of the year and during the summer it's ALWAYS crowded and most of the time it's really HOT but then you are used to Florida so it won't be so bad for you! we went in June and August of last year and August was definately worse! when we go in June we usually go the week after school gets out in our area because the kids in the Anaheim area are still IN school. We just figure it's pretty much always going to be crowded so we don't let it bother us, we just all do our thing.
As far as places to stay we've been to the Embassy Suites in Anaheim which is really nice and not too far away but can get costly in the long run. Most of the time we stay at HomeWood Suites which is a two bedroom suite with a full size kitchen w/fridge for usually around $100.00 a night for the 5 of us and it's about a mile away from Disneyland. There are SO many choices though! just look on the Disneyland.com for good neighbor hotels or get a AAA guide book and they will help a lot.
HAVE FUN!

We have only gone in July and August in recent years. Here are a few things to keep in mind about June 2007:

1. The Finding Nemo submarine ride is planned to re-open on June 11 (after years of being down) and will draw signficant crowds the week after it opens and until the Southern Cal AP blackout starts in late June. This will increase crowds throughout June.

2. The Fantasmic show was scheduled to be dark until mid-June, but now MousePlanet says it will re-open in late May. So you should be good here if this holds.

3. Park hours will be much shorter in early to mid-June, and from what I remember the shows and/or fireworks are not performed every night until late June, so you may have some limitations on shows on weeknights.

4. Not sure what the trends mean, but in my experience and from what I have read of others, the summer of 2006 was much less crowded than the summer of 2005 and lines, while not short, were noticably shorter.

I would not let heat affect your decision. Whichever month you choose, take afternoon breaks each day to swim and nap, and you will be fresher for the evening. In general, June will be the least hot of the three months.

Agree completely!! First week of June or last week of August is usually pretty darn nice!!! Weekdays will make it all the better!

Definitely June! And, you can take advantage of Kids Fly Free, if you travel before the end of June. (Not sure of the exact date, but near the end of the month)

We've been in June and the first week of August. You'd be better off in June!

My kids don't get out of school until June 15th, so that kind of messes up going until later in June. I work for a company that owns several Best Western hotels and I can sometimes get employee discounts or trade rooms at other hotels. So I'm hoping to see if I can get a discount room at one of the local BW's! Usually works better during slow seasons, but it never hurts to ask.

I'll continue to read this thread and get lots of good ideas from the Experts! Thanks

We had the same issue, and went towards the end of June. We were going with my BIL and his family, and he's a teacher. He couldn't duck out of the last days of school.

What a cool perk, getting a deal at Best Western. I think we stayed at a Best Western when I was a teen, going to DL. They are nice.

Early-mid June I think is the best. It's usually when we go. The weather is mild, the crowds aren't so bad. Once you hit July you've got a packed park and hot temps! :)

We have been going late May and early June. The crowds and temps aren't bad at all. Or at least they haven't been so far. We usually take a day and go to Newport Beach also. The ocean is a little chilly for my liking, but DH loves it.

We will be staying at the DLH for the first time this year and I am so excited.

I haven't been in June for many, many years. But we went in late August last year and in 04 and it wasn't bad at all, very doable. We wait until the kids in CA are back in school to go.
