We plan to hit Epcot at RD this thursday - none of us cares about designing the car at test track. but our DD is too young for us to do single rider so we will do standby at RD.

Are we forced to take five minutes to design a car? If so, is everyone in the same boat? in other words, once we get to the design part are we locked into our spots in line or could others get ahead of us?

TIA

Unless they have changed something, everyone makes the car, or at least stays in the room where you design the car. It took the place of the intro video spiel from the old Test Track.

Still true. No one is getting past you while you are in there. That said, you can continue on out the other side of the room and into the remaining queue by going out the unlocked doors (very few, if any, actually do this in any group led into the room). You might try designing the car anyway, it's kind of fun.

We would love to design it the next time we ride, but we wanted precious rope drop time spent elsewhere.

So even if we go thru the unlocked doors early, we would still be "stuck" until the design phase is complete for the others?

No, you continue on with the queue after the design room.

So, do you mean that once you're in the room where you design the car, if you didn't want to do that, you could just continue through the design room and out the next set of doors (basically bypassing the design element)? I only ask because this didn't really seem like an option when I was there last (admittedly over a year ago); the CMs in the room asked everyone to remain at their station until the design portion was over. I didn't try to leave early, so I didn't test the doors, but it seemed like they didn't want folks to do that.

They probably don't, but they cannot stop you and the doors are unlocked.

Similar thing at the Aerosmith recording studio preshow at RnRC, you don't have to watch ST and the boys if you don't want to. I've pushed through there once with no trouble when I was in a hurry.

(I'm not encouraging this, mind you, but just answering the OP's question.) ;)
