Anyone have any hint on rope drop to try and get my kid up front for a ride with Mickey?

Last time we went - I got early 8am CRT and CP breakfasts with characters which was very cool because we were ULTRA first in the parks - literally empty parks... BUT... I had not considered rope drop and riding with the characters...

So anyone have any hints? Obviously be at the front entrance early... but if we are in a breakfast can we go back around to the rope drop side?

And - how does it work? You are first at the front gates... then when that opens you run to the rope? WHere is the rope? Cinderellas castle?

I don't have an answer for you but am interested in what others have to say so I will bump this back to the top for you. ;)

I did not realize you could ride with characters. On our first trip in 2002 (before I knew about the DIS) we were waiting for the rope drop and this CM came up to this little girl and asked her name but she was shy and hid behind her mom, so the CM walks over to my DD7 at the time and says what's your name and she says "Hi, my name is Jennie **** , I live in Burlington, Vermont and this is my first trip to Disney World" :teeth: We all cracked up. She doesn't have a shy bone in her body :rotfl: Anyway He asks all 3 of us to step under the rope and walks us to Space Mountain and let's us ride by ourselves and gave us a Certificate that said "Magical Moments" and "First family to ride SP" It was wonderful!!!!

The rope drop for riding Dumbo with Mickey (I'm assuming that's what you were referring to) is inside Cinderella's Castle. It is on the Fantasyland end of the castle, near CRT. There you will encounter families trying to get to Dumbo for the first ride, as well as families trying to get to Tinker Bell's Treasures to wake up Tink.

My suggestion for being at the rope early enough is to get a PS for one of the character breakfasts an hour or so before the park's official opening time. We had an 8 a.m. PS for Crystal Palace in December, and were at the rope by around 8:50 to wait for the drop.

Good luck.

Can anyone give me more information on this? website, etc? I have not heard of any of this and I'm also wondering about it. Do you actually ride with Mickey on Dumbo ride? And what about Tinkerbell?

We've been on the very first Dumbo ride on 2 different trips and Mickey did not ride, so I don't really know what this post is referring to either. Can anyone explain the "ride with Mickey" part?

well perhaps I have it wrong, but from what I heard ... on occasion if you are there at rope drop sometimes one or two of the characters choose a child to take a ride with

maybe I have it all wrong

I don't know the "ins" and "outs" of the thing, obviously it isn't done every morning, but I have been at rope drop before, gone straight to Dumbo and saw Mickey and Minnie waiting at the front of the line. We were in the second ride group , but got some great pictures of Mickey and Minnie riding Dumbo!

On one trip we were waiting by the rope in fantasy land(after breakfast at CRT). The CM in charge of the rope let my family in to ride on any ride before it was officially open. We picked space mountain...got to ride it with no one on it but us! One other time, Poo got on the winnie the poo ride with us and rode the whole time in our car...guess you have to be in the right place at the right time

Years ago, we got to ride the first ride of the day on Barnstormer with Goofy. He was with another child in the first car, and we were near the back, which was perfectly fine with my then 3 yr old dd, because she was a bit scared of him! We saw Minnie ride on Dumbo's first ride that day too.
