Best store bought spaghetti sauce - and worst

I also will use the Hunts in a can. It is really not too bad, not as good as my own but a lot quicker!

Gia Russo-Tomato Basil cost alot aboutr $5 a jar but it's the best for us. Not too sweet. Can't stand Ragu......:(

For me the best is Classico Tomato and Basil; the worst any with mushrooms

Jar sauces are kinda taboo in my house. I cook and freeze my own but hey I'm human and there are times I need to use it. Rao's or Emeril's is the only jar sauce considered. Rao’s Homemade Arrabbiata Sauce,or Rao's Marinara and if Emeril's his Sicilian gravy is the only one.
Ragu is as bad if not worse than opening a can of chef boyardee! Yuck :snooty:

All those jarred sauces have starch and corn syrup etc. Yuck! They all taste terrible to me. The only one I will buy in a pinch is Victoria's. Expensive, but it has no junk in it and tastes the closest to homemade.

I have never heard of that brand or seen it. I have to keep an eye out for it in my area. Nothing beats home made though. I just wish I was a better cook. My poor wife grew up in a house where take out and pizza delivery was a way of life. She's even a worse cook than me.:lmao:

I would sooner eat a bowl of spiders than eat jarred spaghetti sauce.

Maybe it's a New York thing. :confused3 It's made in Brooklyn. Maybe they don't ship to grocers outside the metro area. Sorry! Look at the labels of the pricey specialty brands at your store (usually right next to the usual ones like Ragu). If it just has tomatoes, spices, herbs, and natural ingredients etc. chances are it will be good. Take a look at the label of a jar of Ragu or Prego. You'd be surprised what's in there!

I love Newman's sauce any of them are really tasty. If I'm in a cash crunch, I'll use one of the cheapies. But once I finish doctoring it up, you couldn't tell what it was I started with anyway.

My wife usually makes hers from scratch, but on occassion she'll get (I think) Classico.

Just my opinion, but sause always seems to be better the second (or third) day. It just seems thicker.

I knew a kid who'd put ketchup on his pasta. *THAT* ladies & gentlmen, is gross.

I like making my own, but Shaw's (yes, the store brand) makes a very good meatless sauce. I've tried many but really don't care for any of the others. The experts (aka the kids) seem to concur.

Classico Tomato and Basil. I have had this particular sauce recommended to me by "2" Italian moms who make their own marinara and would never, ever touch a jar'd sauce...you would think. Sometimes even they get desperate. :rotfl: I also like the Classico 4 cheeser. Yummy!!

I like a couple of Trader Joe's, Bertolli's Olive Oil and Garlic but mostly I like to make my own from scratch. My mom buys Prego or Ragu but she adds so much stuff to them they don't taste yucky when she's done with them.

i don't really buy store bought a lot, i make my own.

but i guess if i HAD to pick it would be Emeril's Vodka Sauce.

and i hafta agree with the OP, ragu is just awful

Ragu is the preferred brand here.

Used to be Prego until they changed the formula.

I can't stomach strong sauces.

2 cans of diced tomatoes with green pepper and onion and 2 tiny cans of tomato sauce w/ basil. Not really a jar sauce, I guess. But it is store bought!

I think the worst is Ragu.
