Best Standard View at Swan? What to request?

We are very happy to be returning to the Swan in 28 days! We stayed once before (wonderful trip!) and were upgraded to a balcony room. This time I have 3 rooms booked at the govt rate - traveling with DH, DD, sisters, BIL, neice, nephew and mom to celebrate mom's 80th birthday! We will be spending 3 nights here, then 3 nights at WL. As we will be checking in after 6 pm I am not optimistic about an upgrade, though I do belong to SPG.

What are the standard views like at Swan? Any chance of seeing TOT from our room or Epcot? What should we request? Any advice?

Also, is emailing the request a couple of weeks before check-in the best strategy?

Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure about all the standard rooms at the Swan. We just returned a week ago ourselves from our first visit to the Swan. We went on the teachers rate and had a standard booked. There were two families in our party and we had requested connecting rooms. At peak time, Easter (they were booked solid), we were still upgraded with our SOG. We had fifth floor east wing both rooms with balconies. So ther is hope for you even checking in late. I beleive most of the standards are on the front of the building facing towards MGM. None of these appeared to have balconies.
Is the birthday you are celebrating on one of the days you are at the Swan? I have read that you can get a 100.00/night rate on the night of a birthday. I do not know all the details, but you may want to check this out. Have a great vacation.

Thanks for the info JGMOM. I guess there is hope! Unfortunately, our mother's birthday is 9 days before we arrive... the govt rate is still great though.

How was your stay? Did you like your room and view? Hope you had a fabulous time! That location can't be beat!

Anyone know how the MGM views are? Seeing TOT from the room seems pretty cool! Should we request this, in case we aren't lucky enough for an upgrade?
