Best song ever?

Every Memorial Day, my radio station does the "Rock and Roll 500" and every year Stairway is #1. Definitely not my favorite song. LOL.

I'm gonna go with Turn the Page by Bob Seger.

Wanted to add "Do You Feel Like I Do" by Frampton but it fails the 7 minute test...

I'm not a huge Springsteen fan, but seeing as it's 4th of July weekend, how about "Born in the USA"?

Born in the USA is a great song, but definitely not patriotic!

Funny -- I was just going to suggest Van Morrison's Moondance, and I have QVC on, and the host and guest (Carolyn Pollack, southwestern jewelry) just started to sing it...

I also love Burning Down the House by Talking Heads -- greatest intro ever.

I agree with Fanfare for the Common Man

andone more, a personal favorite -- Walking Away by The Con Men (youtube.com/theconmenband, if you're not familiar)

Born in the USA is a great song, but definitely not patriotic!

Just saw this -- a personal gnashing of teeth -- when the Challenger exploded in the '80s, one radio station kept playing this as a "tribute" -- I finally had to call and tell them to actually listen to the words. They stopped playing it then...

I have to give it to Bruce-- not Born in the USA though (doesn't make my top 10 favorite Bruce songs, much less favorite songs of all time), "The River" instead.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd:thumbsup2

Honorable Mention Angie by the Stones

Cheaters, the lot of you. (or at least some of you hehehe)

You have to pick a song...can't make a blanket statement that ALL songs by X band are the best or so-and-so's album is the best. Not-to-mention, I didn't ask what your favorite song is. What is the best song of all time? While I answered that it was a toss up for me between the two I mentioned, neither of those is my favorite song. THAT honor goes to "You Spin Me Round" by Dead or Alive.

Well, if you are going to make me pick, I REALLY REALLY love Rush and every song that they have ever written, but I suppose if you want to get technical, the song that always makes me happiest when I hear it is "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley. That is a great song.

OK, best song of all time? Difficult but I'll stick to Free Bird.

Did the rest of the committee (DH and cousin) adopt your suggestion for the 7 minute rule? :) Besides, countless rock song surveys can't be all wrong. :thumbsup2

An emphatic NO on that. My cousin (a huge music snob...) just about fainted when I gave him my "rule" and refuses to abide by it. :lmao:

Well since you didn't like my favorite song, I will vote "Angie" by the Rolling Stones as BEST song. :thumbsup2 Honorable mention would go to "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart. I considered voting "American Pie" by Don McLean in honor of today being the Fourth of July (since the word "American" is in the title) but since you have that seven minute rule, I guess "American Pie" doesn't qualify. ;)

Soem good choices on the DIS boards.

but you are ALL missing the obvious......

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings.

Absolutely.

Best.

Of.

Just one? Wow - this is hard! How about one for a few different genres?

Rock - The Beatles Oh! Darling

Country - Hank Williams I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry

Pop - Michael Jackson Thriller

R&B - Stevie Wonder I Wish

Rap - Beastie Boys No Sleep Til Brooklyn

Reggae - Bob Marley Could You Be Loved ( I went for the classic on this but it was a tie with Matisyahu One Day)

Heavy Metal - Black Sabbath Iron Man

Classical - Beethoven Symphony No. 9 In D minor, Op. 125 "Choral": IV Presto

I like your favorite song :flower3:...But would you consider it the best song ever?

If so, then it's a great choice!

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. I like seeing all the different opinions. BTW, my 7 minute rule only really applies to my selections. If Loooooooooooooooong songs don't bother you then by all means say it loud and proud!

Okay, fine. "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" by Toby Keith. Best song ever. Happy Birthday, United States of America!!!!!!!!!!!! :bday:party::cake:

eta: before this song came out, my answer would have been "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" - which is why I gave both responses the first time
