Please let me know what snacks you have taken into the parks with you...

I want to start planning.

Thanks

We take a trail mix and bottled water. Trail mix fits nicely in a fanny pack and you can't beat bringging in your own bottled water! I refuse to pay 2.50 for bottled water in the parks.

Here are things we carried into the park for snacks and/or lunch (not all on the same day of course!): raisins, dried apricots, foil pouches of tuna, , peanut butter, aerosol cheese (I had never used this before, but it was pretty good and needed no refrigeration), pocket bread, triscuits, wheat thins granola and cereal bars, Chex “morning mix”, single serving applesauce, fruit cups and pudding cups peanut M&Ms, juice boxes, packages of cheese/peanut butter crackers assorted cheese & cracker packages, cookies, and Frito-Lay “snacks to go” (these are chips or other salty snacks in a plastic container, about the size of a pringles can, with a recloseable snap on lid….the chips don’t get crushed in your backpack), candy, apples, oranges, rice krispy treats, nuts

We always have string cheese, carrot sticks & some kind of nuts (typically almonds). We also like some sort of trail mix or dry cereal to snack on as well.

We took the animal cookies with the icing on them....big mistake. Don't take anything that could melt because it will.

My kids take fanny packs with snacks, and this is what I've bought so far: milk & cereal bars, granola bars, gummies, fruit roll-ups, Rice Crispie treats, caramel popcorn, goldfish, raisins. Other stuff we either have taken or might take include poptarts, gum, Chex Morning Mix, trail mix, dry cereal, PB sandwiches, pudding, bananas, and pb crackers. We use powdered Gatorade in the kids' water bottles, so there's no complaining about yucky tasting water. My dh will probably have to have his Mt. Dew, too. There are so many things that are packaged in small portions for lunches, but here's where I'm cheap. I'd rather buy the big container of Goldfish and put some in a small plastic container and get more for the $ than buy it already packaged in small portions. I figure if I'm buying it to save money, I'm going to save as much as I can. We avoid a lot of salty snacks so kids don't get even thirstier then guzzle their drinks and have to take even more potty breaks. We always travel with Sweet Tarts which help when you're thirsty but really shouldn't drink any more. (1 ds has to go constantly!)

Gatorade or pedialyte is good. Dehydration can creep up on you before you realize it. We buy the small size gatorade (juice box size) now that our children are old enough to drink it. My wife and I get Poweraide or one of the gatorades when we start to sweat and give the kids a gatorade, too. It really makes a difference.

Hey travelitis and whozit...Can I go with you guys on your next trip? Your snack lists sound delicious (and plentiful)!!! :teeth:

I do actually have a serious question. From what I've read, it seems Disney "frown's upon" guests taking in their own food. Has anyone ever had a problem with doing that (for example, when security checks your bags on the way in)?

BTW, my 2 cents...that Chex Morning Mix is good stuff! Also, speaking of dehydration, for those kids or adults (like me) who have a hard time drinking enough water...I've discovered Fruit2O. This is flavored water that is sweetened with Splenda, which is an all natural sugar substitute that is actually derived from sugar. Fruit2O has no calories, no sugar, no nothin'! I really love it and find myself drinking more water than I ever have. I would think that kids would take to it a little better as well because of the flavors. And I promise I do not work for that company! :)

I don't believe I have heard of anyone having a food problem yet. You won't be packing a full picnic basket (I hope!:D ) and carrying it in - just a small pack with items in I assume.

I had some small cookies in a bag in case my blood sugar dropped and we usually took 3 bottles of water with us that Mama T gave us in the morning at the Swan. I boo-booed and took Quaker granola bars without thinking (the chocolate covered ones - disaster waiting to happen) - won't do that again.

My kids will take fanny packs of snacks, and I will take a small soft-sided cooler that might be holding sodas or sandwiches. When I went to WDW with my Ex-husband (boo! hiss!), I had to make the pennies scream for mercy. We went back to our room for a lunch break, and I packed sandwiches for supper. No one batted an eye or cared. Last time my new and improved model of husband and I graced WDW, we took a small cooler with no problems at all. IMHO the CM's think the food at WDW is overpriced and really don't care if you want to carry food. Also, can you imagine the congestion if they started really cracking down and forbidding ALL food?

In a very small fanny pack I carried quaker chewy granola bars (not the chocolate coated ones) and mickey mouse gummi fruit. It was perfect for us. We went back to the room (CR) to make sandwiches and have a rest and swim most days and the snacks really helped.

HuggaBaloo--

We didn't have any problem taking snacks in. We got no funny looks or remarks....the only remark at all was one of the security people commenting to my niece "those peanut M&Ms look good!". There are a lot of posts on this board that bring up this question, and I haven't seen any that mentioned anyone encountering problems bringing in snacks/drinks (the exceptions being glass containers and alcoholic beverages). Some of the posts even indicate that Disney's policy now allows outside food (other posts say this is incorrect). Maybe its like strollers....they're more than happy to rent you one, but you can bring your own if you like.

When we were there in August, I even saw people pulling full-sized wheeled coolers in the parks (some were the soft-sided ones with a retractable handle similar to carry-on luggage and one was a large hard plastic Igloo or Rubbermaid type that pulls along like a wagon).

I've enjoyed reading all the ideas on this thread! My personal opinion is that if Disney wanted to enforce the "no food in the parks" rule (although if there really is such a rule, I've never seen it posted at the parks...did I miss it?) they could certainly do it, especially with the security checks. Instead, the security personnel seem to enjoy bantering back and forth with incoming guests about their goodies! As for us, we will be taking snacks and perhaps sandwiches, and definitely bottled water. And thanks to the great ideas posted here, we'll have a nice variety, too!:teeth:

We've never felt as though we were being frowned upon for our snack packs; don't worry a bit about this! We bring the usual stuff: goldfish crackers, cereal in ziploc bags (Cracklin Oat Bran is better than cookies, yum!), carrot sticks, nuts, etc. Never had a problem.

Travelitis: I'm still cracking up over the screaming pennies comment (we've had a lot of trips like that.) And the new & improved husband model...I love it!:) :) :)

We always bring a roll of Salt and Vinegar Pringles. They keep in their roll nicely without getting broken up. And they make us thirsty which forces us to drink more. We always bring in our own water.

We bring bottled water, pringles, Chex Morning Mix (My kids love this), Fruit snacks, the mini muffins in a package, peanut butter crackers. In a small insulated lunch bag I would carry cheese sticks, carrot sticks and a couple juice boxes.

We carry them in a backpack which the adults and older kids take turns carrying.

We had no trouble bringing in small snacks and it really helps keep the kids happy in between. They really didn't ask us to buy anything to eat and never went hungry.

I got the Mickey Mouse fruit roll ups, the Buzz and Princess fruit snacks, Mickey and Buzz cereal (then divided up into smaller ziplocs), and a few other things I forget. Add in the Mickey fruit juice pouches or the Pooh boxes, shop the sales and use coupons and:

Voila! Disney magic for 1/100 the price!

Tortilla and PB and J. Just get a tortilla spread peanut butter and jelly on it. Roll it up. Put it in a ziploc bag. Zoila instant healthy snack with no mess.

Am I a genius or what? JK, LOL:p

Trust me the kids will love this and so will you!

Some great ideas here!

I've seen boxed milk at the grocery store that's supposed to be used like juice boxes -- small straw attached and no refrigeration required. Anyone know whether they're any good?

I did have security question a small tupperware that I had filled with lemondae powder. It got pulled out, I explained, he smelled, I offered to lick my finger and eat some, and he said OK.
Only held me up about one minute. Did embarrass my husband and kids though.

Nothing in original wrappers seemed to cause a question.
