Best Since 'Beauty and The Beast' and 'Lion King?' Is Frozen being set up.....

We got free tickets to Frozen (courtesy of ABD) so will likely be going to see it in the next few days.

I'm always skeptical about movie previews and TV advertisements of "the movie of the year" or similar terms. Most of them are movies I have absolutely no interest in seeing and the previews only reinforce that. Labeling this movie as the best since BatB and Lion King is indeed a very high hurdle. I hope Disney can do it.

We are going tomorrow. In one review I read the person made the comment that the marketing was not doing the movie justice. With so many glowing reviews and comparisons to Lion King and Beauty and the Beast (that's an over reach, but I'm biased), maybe that is the case. To me the advertising, trailers etc. have basically set this up as Tangled in the snow. Tangled was a good movie, but it wasn't Beauty and the Beast by any stretch of the imagination. I really hope it lives up to the hype. Would love to see more high quality animated musicals from Disney.

We are actually going tonight to a special day early preview that Disney is doing for folks in our town. Looking forward to checking it out!! :3dglasses

What town is this taking place in, and why was your town picked? Lucky you. I'm in Glastonbury.

Yeah, I'm spending Thanksgiving in Nashville and will be seeing it next door to the Grand Ole Opry. Unless Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers come out and do a live number.... not sure how it tops Beauty and the Beast. I really hope it does. I could get behind a 'Frozen Land' at WDW for the summer months. :rotfl:

Newtown.

We have been getting many special events donated to the kids in our town since 12/14/13 - from pop stars doing free concerts in our town parks to top althletes doing clinics in our local gyms. It's nice to see a big company like Disney reaching out too.

I totally agree about the marketing being off. The commericals had made me go 'meh' because it just looked a wee bit bland. I had no idea it was a musical until I read Craig's and Shaun's review. Now I'm actually looking forward to seeing it on Thursday.

Yes, I was going to say... if we're talking in terms of box office receipts or theatrical runs, last time I checked, the Lion King came out AFTER Beauty & the Beast.

So our theater had a showing tonight, so since my DD had a 3 hr dance class, a movie seemed like a good idea. ( Shhh...don't tell my DD) I would say go in with an open mind. Don't let the poor advertising sell you on what the movie is, because the ads really do a poor job representing the movie. And don't go in buying all review hype either. This movie is a different animal from the movies of the 90's.

Took the family to see Frozen tonight, we were the only ones in the theater which really surprised me. My daughters, 6 and 11 loved the movie, both DW and I liked it as well. I did not find the music catchy, but the story was good. I thought the 3D really added to the movie, overall I think it is a must see for families.

I'd say the reviews were pretty accurate. It was not beauty and the beast or lion king but it is a good movie. It has a familiar disney feel but with some originality. The animation and the "musical" aspects were the best parts.

I am so glad to hear this. I know the movie opened at many theaters today, but didn't know Disney provided it to the residents of Newtown. Makes me proud to be associated with the Disney name, as a travel agent and life long fan!

Saw it at 7:30EST and there was a good, but not overwhelming turnout, most people were going to Catching Fire. The music is not up to Aladdin, Lion King, or Beauty and the Beast staying power. A good fairy tale type story, but the highlights were Olaf and Sven. There is a very tiny scene after the credits to watch for.

Is it scary? I am wondering if it is appropriate for a 3-yr old.

It has a couple of parts a small child might find scary. The main characters are chased by wolves for a brief period, and the snow monster that is shown on commercials is in a few scenes. At 3 i would say it depends on the kid. I think the snow monster would have bothered my DD at 3. There was a boy about 4 in the showing I went to, and it didn't seem to bother him.

They were talking about it on the radio this afternoon (on the station that's playing 24/7 Christmas music as of this week). It received a lot of praise. The music was compared to "Broadway style." I'm excited to see it and just got my tickets from ABD! :cool1:

Just walked out of the theater. 3 things.... 1. Absolutely worth the hype and is destined to be a soundtrack, blu-ray and mech purchase for the 4 year old. Music is one of the better soundtracks of recent movies. 2. The credits are long and so many people worked on this film. More than usual. 3. Stay till the end of the credits for sure. It's short but cute.

EDIT: OK, one more thing. 'Do You Wanna Build a Snowman' really nailed it for me. We have one child and she always wants to play and that song sounded so much like her plea (which I give in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Nd0AD-nJAA
