Best Shoes

I agree with the fit flops - have several pair and my feet never hurt at the end of the day -

I'm curious about fitflops. I've never heard about them before. What stores sell them?

Tennis Shoes Tennis Shoes Tennis Shoes. Some you already have would be best. Don't buy new and try to break them in. Good Luck

I'm going to start by saying that you need to wear what you KNOW is comfortable. If you plan on trying something new you had better get it well in advance of the trip to break them in and know how you like them. Same goes with kids...don't buy them new shoes just for the trip...they need to be broken in first and you need to know that the kids are comfortable in them BEFORE you get to the parks.

That said...here's what worked out best for me. I have complex regional pain syndrome in my left ankle...which I don't expect anyone on here to know what that is because it's...just a very complicated condition. But essentially I cannot take anything touching the spot on my ankle that is worse, and yet I will literally faint if a breeze of cold air or air conditioning touches it. So I wear jeans all year and choose the pain of wearing socks over the chance of cold air killing me. But I found a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups that are a Mary Jane style and don't touch the part of my ankle that hurts.

I know some people hate shape-ups and can't wear them. For me they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had on my feet and I work 9-16 hours a day on my feet working retail. I WISH I could wear the gym shoe versions but...alas...the pain from the pressure on my ankle in a regular gym shoe will also knock me out from the pain. But I can wore the mary janes out until the backs were literally gone they were so comfortable. I recommend trying them out at least.

But you can't make a decision based on what others like..you just have to try out what works best for you. Good luck...and remember that you need to break everything in BEFORE you go...lol!

I noticed no one mentioned Chaco sandals. I have severe PF and I wear Chaco sandals in the summer. I personally find that I need a good cushion for my heel and also arch support and the Chaco sandals give me that. I have custom orthodoics and wear them with my tennis shoes. I find that my feet get really
hot in my tennis shoes so for me that is not comfortable.

As always you must break your shoes in and I agree with the taking two pairs.

Good luck!

I have found for myself personally that a pair of Keen's (i.e. Newport H2's) are the most comfortable shoes for a long trip to DW. They have the comfort and support of a good sneaker, while having the breath-ability of a sandal.

DITTO!! Keens are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and I have bad feet! I have tried Merrills, New Balance, and all kinds of recommended comfy shoes from shoe stores, but once I bought a pair of Keens I have never looked back!

This is what works for me:

Keens or Eccos during the day, then switch to my Reef flip flops in the evening. I also have some Eastland strappy sandals that are insanely comfy and I wear those alot too.

And I NEVER wear sneakers. To me, that's not comfort - my feet need to be open to the air. (I go to Disney in the warm months, but since I'm from the northeast, I'd probably still wear sandals or flip flops in the winter too, since it would feel so much warmer than back home!)

thank you so much for suggesting fitflops! i had never heard of them until this website. Unfortunately, i have a bad left knee and lower back, so naturally i was concerned about comfortable shoes as well. I ordered my fitflops the week before we went and i wasn't able to break them in bc they arrived late and its winter.
Needless to say, i still packed them wore them the whole time on our vacation. i had no blisters! my knee/back never bothered me (which is rare)!! plus, i got a great workout! i highly recommend these if you have a back/knee pain! thinking about getting a pair for my BF.

...crocs are always a great choice too!

Also have had heel spurs that bothered me in the past. I just wear Crocs now and sometimes Keens sandals. Crocs helped the pain in my heel more than anything. I can walk at Disney all day and my legs and feet are very happy :)

For those of you who are Keen fans...what style do you like the best?

I just ordered several pairs of Crocs last week for my May trip! I got Capris, Malindi, Crocband flats, Crocband wedge sandals, and the Off Road crocs! I also got 2 pairs of Teva flip flops to try (here's to hoping!), and my doctor just told me today that I need to try out a new pair of New Balance 1012's. They're a kick in the seat of the pants b/c they are priced between $122-200! Oh well! I just got my cortisone shot, and had my foot wrapped, so hopefully by the time I get there my feet will be A-OK! REALLY don't want to do Disney in a wheelchair if I can help it! Too bad I am gonna have to check a bag b/c of all the shoes I will need!

I have the same thing-Crocs are the best for me. I love the capri thong flip flop sandal. I can go all day in them.

With foot problems, definitely a good pair of broken in tennis shoes. Our family used to be Croc wearers, but have since discovered Teva flip flops. They are the *best (for us) to wear at the parks. We go for usually 9 nights and live in these. Unlike most flip flops, they conform to your foot and are so cushy. The 'strap' in between your toes is also a soft fabric, so no rubbing. We each usually take a few pairs.
Ok, so I just bought two pairs of Teva mush flip flops. They are the wedge ones, and I am not super comfy in them. I was just wondering if it takes you some time to break them in? I keep waiting for them to mush like the name implies, and they aren't! I have a hard time breaking in shoes b/c of my PF. I've been having my girls wear them around the house for me in hopes of getting them to loosen up a bit. Are yours usually stiff at first?

The answer to this question is:
D, All of the above...
or maybe its:
D, None of the above...

Seriously, only your feet can tell you which are the best shoes. Given the huge difference in how feet are shaped, how much weight they are supporting, and how people walk, there isn't any single answer.

Best advice is to try on several pair of shoes and go with what is most comfortable to you. Then wear them often before you go so that they are well broken in.

And bring more than one pair so that you can rotate them on the trip.
Agree, agree, agree! My doctor told me that my feet are difficult unfortunately. He totally said what you are saying. He confirmed for me what I've been saying for years. I've been saying it feels like I am walking right on my bones, and he says I am! So, what's comfortable for me won't be for someone who has differently shaped feet than me! I think it's great that we can all give ideas to other people who maybe haven't heard of certain brands though.

New Balance running shoes or cross trainers. Teva sandals that are broken in. Last year DS wore his Keen sandals that were broken in; however, with the miles and miles of walking he developed a blister and was MISERABLE.
How do YOU break in your Tevas?

Thanx so much for this! I was able to find the other number that he had suggested for me, which I couldn't find anywhere. He wrote down 1065, and I found 1064, so I am assuming he was off by a number. Anyway, when I did my searches I couldn't find anything even close to the price you found! Then I decided to look on ebay since I had the new number-which is actually better for my shape foot than the 1012's were-and found them REALLY cheap! Thank you so much for guiding me in the right direction!

Has anyone worn their Berkenstocks to the parks??? I love mine and wear them all summer but not sure how they will be all day walking.

I like my walking shoes, Nike Air. My son and daughter love ther crocs. The crocs would be great for rain. The Nike Air to me are very comfortable, becuase I used to get blisters and I don't since I started wearing walking shoes.
