Best Sheets bedding for college

So DS is heading off for college in one week. Still hasn't done one thing about bedding. Any particular favorites any of you found which hold up well in dorm life?

As a recent grad here's what I have to say.

The sheets I bought at linens n' things (or perhaps Bed, Bath, and Beyond) were just fine. They were pretty cheap, but high quality for my tastes.

If you have to buy extra long sheets, I my opinion I would not buy very expensive ones just because after your child's time spent in the dorm you will never again see an extra long twin.

Go to Linens N Things OR BB&B and look for BEECH sheets. They are in the jersey family BUT much nicer. Higher quailty. My DS has 3 sets. Navy, Blk and grey. They have them in XL Twin that you need.

That is #1 BEECH SHEETS. They can be used just as well on a standard twin. The flexibility of the beech sheets will allow for that.

#2 get her a featherbed for her bed. They sell them there as well. You can get real good prices. Those college mattresses are thin as pancakes.

I just moved my daughter into the dorm last weekend and want to highly recommend that you invest in one of the high density foam pads that are sold at both Bed, Bath and Beyond and Linens n Things. These pads are about two inches in thickness and make a huge difference on those hard dormitory beds. I found one at Bed, Bath and Beyond that comes with a quilted mattress cover that goes on over both the mattress and the foam pad and holds them all together. In order to get the twin extra long size I had to order it from their web site. (The local store kept insisting that it didn't come in that size.)

I recommend using a downcomforter with a duvet cover on top of a fitted sheet. Easy to clean and make the bed everyday! Plus it's super comfortable, and I find they're cool in the warm weather but warm in cold weather.

I prefer Target brand sheets. They have one with a high thread count. The sheets get trashed pretty quickly in dorms. You can buy the sheets all separately instead of in sets & get more of what you need. This way, you can get extra flat sheets for curtains or more of the fitted sheets.

If you go with a comforter with a cover, you won't even need the flat sheets.

as this is for a young male, i'm thinking the duvet might be a good idea. he won't make his bed, I'm not expecting.

the school website says regular sized sheets, I'm going to call to confirm that.

did y'all send 2 sets of sheets to alternate, or just assume they'll get washed rarely, and then put back on?

be sure and check on size I thought my son would need the xl but his dorm was reg. twin.

DS had an XL Twin Bed last year in his dorm, he put the fitted sheet on the bottom then brought full size top sheets so he had some room to move around without losing his sheet, he just tucked it in. I bought him one of those good quality foam pads I think it was around $70 in full size and we doubled it up in half so it was like double the foam on his bed. I put that underneath the fitted mattress pad. He said his bed was so comfortable!
He took a bedspread and 3 pillows with him, he never used the extra blanket. It was about 80 degrees all winter in his dorm room. He also brought A LOT of pillowcases, he likes a fresh one every night, which became quite the topic with the 3 other boys in his room LOL
