Ok, I wore some shorts today and it was a little scary to see my pale legs:). I have not used a self tanner in many years, so I would love some recommmendations for the best one. Thanks!!!

OMG that is SO funny that you did this thread...I just bought/used one last night & woke up this morning streaky in places not to mention orange! :headache:

I got Neutrogena Build-a-Tan..it said it delivers "a hint" of color that you can deepen with each application.....NOT! It is really TOO DEEP for me with one application! And I am not overly fair, either...I'd call my skin color light to medium.

I thought this would be a safe kind/brand to get...guess I was wrong. This is my second bad experience with sunless tanners, I think I am done trying.

I am trying to stay out of the tanning bed this summer to be safe!!

So sorry I guess this is my what NOT to buy suggestion! :rotfl:

If i ever get it again I guess I'll get something more expensive like a department store brand...I hear Clarins is good.

Jergens natural glow is good. I have had good luck with it and no orange streaks.
Do not do the Mystic tan thing ( at the tanning places) if was $25 and I was not impressed ! My Jergens lotion did a better job and a fraction of the price!

I've been using the sunless tanning from Clinique and have been happy with it.

2 hints of advice though.
Do use a body exfoliater with it. I don't buy the clinique brand they reccomend, instead I buy the cheap wal-mart brand. I use it on my face and body everytime I shower and it works like a charm! Before I started exfoliating, my sunless tanners (no matter what brand) would peel off my skin like paint chips. My neck and chest would look all flakey and gross. Not anymore. Exfoliating is key!

Also, Clinique makes a face tanner and body tanner. At first I bought both, and then found out that the face tanner was too bronzy for me and made me look dirty, so I just used the body tanner on my face and it looks more natural. They will reccomend you buy the face tanner as well, but you really don't need to. The bodt tanner will be fine on your face.

AS for the Jergens natural glow, I use that all year long and I can't honestly tell you if I 've seen a difference. Now CVS has come out with their own version of the natural glow for half the price! Haven't tried it yet though!

Good luck. Hopefully you'll have a radiant glow before too long!

I tried Avon's and used their exfoliating shower stuff beforehand. It did the job, but if you don't apply it JUST right it is streaky and despite washing my hands immediately after they still turned a little orange  . I have heard that some people have good luck with the foam kind, I think Neutrogena makes one.

I've been using the Neutrogena Micro Mist. You just spray it on, let it dry, and go. I don't like having to rub the stuff in because I never seem to do it quite right or wash my hands fast enough afterwars. With this, there is no rubbing...the color is good for me and I have medium skin tone. HTH! :sunny:

I have been looking at this product also. Because it is a mist is there alot of streaking? Thanks!

It is a very very fine mist, which is why I don't think you get the streaking. I haven't had any yet. I think the only way streaking would happen is if you applied too much and it actually ran. The directions say not to put it on your face, but of course I do it anyway and it looks really good. I just hold my breath while doing it, so as not to tan my lungs. :teeth:

Boy if you had done a search you could have brought up last year's thread when Jergen's was the hot product. WE must have had over 100 posts!!

I hated all the Neutro gena stuff, Jergens is okay but at some point you need to stop applying it because it builds up. Then you have to wait a couple of days and then exfoliate to get off all the old stuff and begin the process all over again. I have used Chanel, L'Oreal, and Clinque. None of them seem to work well for me. The even the micro mist is streaky. Now this year Olay has one similar to Jergens. I am going to try that one. I am also going to try the one that is offered at Paula's Choice cosmetics. Her stuff is usually pretty good and does what it says. Till then I will just stay pale.

Just a helpful hint.....before applying a sunless self tanner use a regular moisturizer on your hands and feet and then apply the self tanner. The dry cracks and crevases on your hands and feet will absorb the regular lotion first and then won't absorb so much self tanner leaving your hands and feet free from the staining. Also don't forget to wipe off the webs between your fingers because the tend to absorb extra bronzer. Applying the self tanner in a circular motion rather than long strokes also will help prevent straks and stain.

I sell Avon & can't stand the smell of their self-tanner. It will tan your towels, etc. too.

Neither the CVS store brand or the Jergens tan moisturizer did anything for me. I used the med-dark, did have a slight tan to begin with from last Dec.

Gave up & joined Hollywood Tan (use sunblock on my face to ward off the wrinkles) & dermatoligist said it was better than frying in the sun as long as I get checked each year.

Would be nice to find a product that really worked.

I have many customers who use the Mary Kay sunless tanning lotion.

Actually, I just delivered a bottle last week.

On my next order, I'm going to get a bottle for myself and try it. It's has a 100% money back guarantee so why not...I just need to find the time to apply it.

I swear by Loreal Sublime Bronze. It has the least "sunless tanner stink" of any of the self-tanners I've tried. A lot of people on sunless.com recommend Savage Bronze (from Sally Beauty Supply) which I haven't tried yet, but which supposedly smells like chocolate. I'm very sensitive to scents so I can't wait to try Savage Bronze!

Exfoliation helps, but the three most important steps in applying self tanner, in my opinion (and I'm quite the expert! :sunny: ) are 1. Apply moisturizer first; 2. Rub, rub, rub in the self-tanner; 3. Wash your hands immediately afterward and clean under your fingernails.

Stay naked for at least 15 minutes to let the tanner dry. Wear an old swimsuit if you want some authentic-looking tan lines (warning: self-tanner can stain light colored clothes if not completely dry).

Apply a very light coat on your feet--feet seem to absorb more self-tanner and can get streaky/orangey very easily.

Bare Escentuals Faux Tan is the BEST. I also liek the natural glow from jergens. What I do is the color I want with teh BE then maintain with Jergens.
HTH

With this technique I can use even the cheap store brands and get decent results--exfoiate in the shower, dry off and mix moisturizer and self tanner together, rub it on like you would moisterizer after a shower. I don't get streaks, the look is even and I can do this on my face as well (I just mix it with facial moisturizer). I don't know why it works, but I was told to try it this way from my local spa.

TanTowels are the absolute best! I have used many, many different self tanners over the last couple of years...bought these and will never, ever use anything different.

They are easy to apply, not at all messy and really give you an even streak free tan. Highly recommended!

I used to really like the Jergens Natural Glow until I tried the new gradual tan product from Bath and Body (compliments of a coupon for a free tube). It has a nice smell going on, but I did notice the standard self-tanner smell a few hours later. With both of these products I notice some tan after the first application. The Bath and Body seems to give a more even appearance, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $$$.
