Best Rooms at Yacht Club

Hi,

I think we may stay at the Yacht Club for my first visit in January 2006. Can anyone tell me from personal experience their favorite location in the resort?

I am not sure if we will do CL as the offerings I have read are really not worth the extra money since it is just me and my husband going. Plus, we are running the marathon, so I don't think would indulge in half of it anyway. Can you still get a good room if you don't pay for the CL?

Is YC a good place to stay if you are running the marathon? DH is running the Disney marathon for the first time and I'm going nuts trying to find the best and most convenient place not only for him but for me, 3 kids and in-laws. Everyone says monorail resorts and its possible that we'll end up at the Poly but we always stay GF so I was looking for something different. THought of a split stay Poly/moderate (can't pick which one), but now DH is saying he might like to stay at YC if its convenient. Can anyone help us?

We are looking at the Yacht Club since it is near the finish. We already figure we are going to get up early on the morning of the race so our choice is based purely on preference of the resort. Someone told me that the OKW is the closest to the start.

I e-mailed disney sports with a few questions, but have not heard back yet.

If I get more info, I will be sure to pass it on ;)

Thanks so much. We were considering YC for the same reasons. I was wondering how difficult it would be to get over to MK, Poly or GF to see some of the middle of the race.

I would say that it is worth it to book a water view room. With standard, you could end up with something that looks out over the parking lot or roof top. The rooms on the concierge level are the same size and offer the same view options. If you were primarily looking to stay concierge for the lounge offerings, then no it probably wouldn't be worth your while. If you were looking for A+ assistance with planning your vacation, then by staying at the YC, you'd be in excellent hands with their IPO staff.

As for transportation to the MK, when we stayed in December, we only shared a bus with the BC and we were dropped off right near the main entrance of the MK. From there you could hop on the resort boat for the GF and Poly or hop on the monorail.

We stayed at YC last week in a standard view room (#4130). We enjoyed the peaceful view as well as the proximity to the elevators. Here's a picture of our view:

We just went over for a short weekend trip two weeks ago, and loved it! We paid for a waterview, and got # 4133 overlooking the wedding gazebo and a straight shot across at the Boardwalk, which was really beautiful all lit up at night. This room has a large balcony too...

This room was very "fresh" to me, and was probably one of the nicest rooms we have had at WDW - everything was very clean, no marks on the walls, etc. It was a connecting room (which we didn't use), and was very quiet. We only heard the neighbors when they were standing right in front of the connecting door on their side, and probably vice-versa for them. One strange thing was that there was a coffeemaker on top of the 'fridge, but you had to carry it to the bathroom to find an outlet to plug it in! :confused3

For some reason I had never wanted to stay at the Yacht Club, but we have been trying to stay at a different resort with each trip and we were down to the YC, CSR, or Dolphin, and the YC won out this time. We LOVED it, and now can't imagine why we were dragging our feet on this resort! My only complaint was the lack of a real snack bar, but it's easy enough to run over to the Beach Club or Boardwalk or Tubbi's at the Dolphin if you absolutely have to!

All of the rooms at the YC have balconies right. Did yours face a courtyard of some sort?

I just booked a standard room at YC for Feb. because it is already peak season and the room is around $400 rack rate, waterview was $70 more! :earseek: But if I were going in value season I probably would book waterview (did that at BWI and Poly on other trips). This will be my first YC stay so I appreciate those of you posting your room locations.
:sunny:

Yikes, $400...where did you book your room at. Am I crazy, but $400 for a room at Disney is a lot. I have paid less to stay at various Four Seasons properties. Does anyone know what the going rate for YC is January which is value season.

I am feeling like if I am going to pay $400 a night I might as well stay at the Ritz. I know it is not on the WDW property, but at least I would feel the $$$ is worth it.

As I said that is rack rate for peak season. I haven't had to pay rack rate the last two times I've gone, always been able to use a code or AP discount to bring that price down significantly. You can look at 2005 rack rates for value season at mousesavers.com. YC standard room in value season 2005 went for $297. I've gone value season twice but now that my daughter is in middle school and travel soccer we can't just "take off" anytime we want so we must go on schedule school vacation weeks.

I believe that all of the YC rooms have balconies, but I'm not 100% sure about that. We've stayed at YC twice, both times in a standard room, both times with a balcony, and both times with the same view in the picture above. We weren't overlooking a courtyard, it was just a large grassy area outlined with trees. We saved about $80/night by booking standard vs. waterview and we were pleased with our room, our view, and our location.
