Hi Universal experts,

We are planning our first trip to Universal for the first of next May. It will be 3 adults (my mom travels with us) and 2 kids, ages 6 and 7. We want to stay onsite but trying to figure out the best way to fit us in one or two rooms at the best cost. Any suggestions? My kids love the family suites, but don't think it will work.

Should we just get two connecting rooms?

Thanks for any advice!

Not sure why the family suites wouldn't work. Parents in one bed. Either 2 kids on the pull out in the living and grandama in the other bed. OR 1 kid on the pull out with the other kid in the bed with Grandma.

Yea, it's going to be tight. I love the family suites but it's ideal for 2-3 people. Any more than that is just crazy. But if you're on a budget, it'll work.

In all honesty, check out 2 family suites. They really are not that much more than the standard rooms. 2 family suites would be downright spacious especially if they were connecting.

When I was there in November, my Poolside Courtyard Family Suite was a connecting room and those rooms are only Family suites. The Tower rooms have a mix of standard and Family suite rooms.

I wrote a review of my solo stay at Cabana Bay if you're interested. It's on this forum somewhere; just look for my posts and it'll be there.

Are you wanting express passes? That means that you have narrowed it down to 3 hotels.

If you don't care about express, I'd do two connecting rooms at CB. We did this when we had a good-sized group and it worked out so well. We had 7 people so we had to get two rooms. We did standard rooms and felt like there was plenty of room. At under $100 per a room, it was cheaper getting two rooms at CB than even one room would have been at the three hotels with express. However - if you're wanting express then that's different. Since you ask about economical, put in your dates on the Universal website to see which of the three is the cheapest. We've never had an issue fitting 5 people in a room at RPR but three are kids. (Though one kid is much bigger than me so adult-sized). It's a different dynamic though when you add a third adult so I'd likely want to do two rooms.

If you want express but aren't sure about putting you all in one room and finances are a big consideration, another option is doing a couple nights at one of the hotels with express with five in a single room and then switching to connecting rooms at CB for the rest of your trip. Keep in mind that you get express for the day you check in and the day you check out.

Thanks! Yes we were really hoping to have express pass ( we have never been but it seems the reviews are positive of the pass on this board). Thanks for the suggestions. I will play around with pricing. Good to know about connecting suites. Can they guarantee connecting at lowes hotels unlike Disney that won't guarantee?

Thank you for your help!

They will guarantee connecting rooms since you have minor children

Have mom and grandma listed in one room and dad and 2 littles for the other room

Set it up this way when you book

Do not wait until you get to the hotel to have connecting rooms

Thank you macraven! By the way, I troll the boards to learn more about the walk to the dark side for our first trip and I find your advice wonderful and very considerate(something we don't always see on the boards).

So, thanks macraven for your help on the boards!
