Hey there!

We are leaving for our road trip to DL in a week and I want to make a Disneyland Road Trip CD, but I need some suggestions. I don't want to use just Disney songs, but wouldn't mind some in the mix.

Right now I'm thinking:

On the road agian-Willie Nelson
Real Gone- Cheryl Crow
California Dreamin'
Ventura Highway

What would you put on a road trip cd?

For some reason?

I always enjoy a little Jimmy Buffet and/or Kenny Chesney when I'm going on Vacation. Guess its the laid back Island Bum sound. :confused3

Usually don't listen to them any other time...unless I want a quick mental escape while at work on my mp3 player. :beach:

Well just for fun you have to include "Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham (ala Vacation w/ Chevy Chase). :lmao:

weird al - biggest ball of twine in minnesota
johnny cash - ive been everywhere
dang near any version - mustang sally
the beatles - drive my car
meatloaf - the entire bat out of hell album
tim petty - runnin down a dream
ac dc - the back in black album
b52's - roam
the temptations - any
stevie wonder - any
the doors - roadhouse blues
springsteen - born to run album
journey - greatest hits
chuck berry - riddin around in my automobile
gary numan - cars
grateful dead - truckin
queen - any

these are all on my ipod when im travelin with my lil girl.. shes a rocker like her daddy though...
i kinda pride myself on making good mixs for road trips..
this is probably my most family friendly one though, and some songs i don even listen to unless im headin out on the road...

Rascal Flatts- Life is a Highway (it was in the movie Cars, too)

Movin' Right Along (the Muppets)

Find songs from the states you're going through - i.e. Don't mess with Texas, etc.

DON'T choose the song "Driving" by Bruce Springsteen - it's not a happy song. (I picked it for my sister's "movin' to texas" cds, and it's lousy)

Another thing you could do is to let each person in your group pick 10 of their favorite songs, and add them - even if they're not road trip material. (My parents did that when we used to travel as kids - I remember one of my favorites was a song sung by Animal from the Muppets as well as the song "Sailing" - I had a good mix!)

Vacation by The GoGo's...

I'm so glad to find out that I'm not the only one who does this!! I used to make tapes and then CD's and made a few for each trip. Now with my ipod, the choices are endless!

Hey girl! Glad to see you back on the boards.

We love to listen to Johnny Cash in the car. Great singing to music. "Life is a Highway " is a must. When we drove to DL we played Disney music beginning from the DL exit until we arrived at the hotel. The kids really got excited.

How long is the drive for you? Will it take 1 or 2 days?

Hey you

It is 11 hrs to DL, so we'll do it in one day. I think disney music the whole way would turn me into several of these guys :banana::banana:

I have a great compilation going so far, and I love love love all the suggestions!

I didn't mean Disney music the entire way. That would drive even us crazy!!! :rotfl2: We had a 23 hr trip. I meant when we were in Anaheim, when we took the final exit to DL we started the music. It think it was for a 3-4 mins that we listened to it.

~Life is a Highway - original Tommy Cochrane version
~Drivin' My Life Away - Eddie Rabbit
~Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
~I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar
~Pink Cadillac - Bruce Springsteen
~Slick Black Cadillac - Quiet Riot
~Witch Doctor - Alvin and the Chipmunks (we like the original and the movie version)
~Zombie Zoo - Tom Petty (listen to it first to see if it's ok for your kids - mine love it)
~Just about ANY Beatles song
~Gitarzan, Mississippi Squirrel Revival, ok anything by Ray Stevens will make the kids laugh
~my kids love anything by Johnny Horton (Sink the Bismark, Battle of New Orleans, King of the Road)
~and any Jan and Dean or Beach Boys hits

Here is a list with some great stuff on it, too:

Wasn't King of the Road Roger Miller?
Glad we're not the only ones listening to Johnny though! I remember always listening to it (on 8 track!) as a kid. My son about wore the CD out in kindergarten. Gotta love Battle of New Orleans and grabbing an alligator! :)

Another recommendation I have is about anything by Trout Fishing in America. Goofy silly songs, not baby/little kiddie songs.

Oh, King of the Road! I used to sing that to ds as a bedtime song :) And Trout Fishing is great!

Yep, that was Roger Miller. I'm getting my classic stuff mixed up. He also did the voice of the narrator in Robin Hood and sang some songs there.

Another suggestion: Green Grass and High Tides - the Outlaws
