Hi there

I want to make a reservation for my family for June, but I don't know which restaurant to choose from the 3 that are available. The Brown Derby is a bit expensive for our party of 6, so I'm limited to the Hollywood & Vine or Mama Melrose's.

Has anyone done the dining experiences in these and what are they like? What's the food like in both?

Thanks

Emma

Hi Emma,
I haven't been to Hollywood & Vine (mainly because of the consistently bad reviews I've read about it)....however, Mama melrose is a MUST for us everytime we're at WDW!! The atmosphere is great, and that wood-burning stove smell makes me drool just thinking of it!! Their has been great every time we've been, I definitely recommend it!

We have done Mama Melrose and it's pretty good. It's better than Olive Garden, but not quite as good as Tutto Italia or Via Napoli. The Sangria:thumbsup2

Cool!! Thanks guys, I kinda wanted people to say Mama Melrose to be honest. Their menu is a bit fancy tho, is it not? Like is there normal Italian food on it?

Mama Melrose is by far the better choice and has a kid friendly menu too. Read a rumor that they were opening a counter service restaurant to service the Fantasmic show but I cannot remember what restaurant or when they plan to do this.

Having eaten twice at H&V I can heartily recommend that you AVOID it if at all possible for either lunch or dinner (although it is only available for dinner for the F. package)

On the other hand we have very much enjoyed our meals at MM. and think it is the best option for the F. package. I wouldn't call it 'fancy' although it is certainly a welcome step up from the CS pizza places. As others have noted, it is on a par with the Olive Garden chain restaurants in the States. Their steak (in or experience) has been very good, and the flatbread pizzas are delicious.

Great! Yeah, the pizza would probably be my choice.

Def. MM. We did breakfast at H&V for the characters. We were not impressed with the food. I wish they would add additional options.

We dined at Mama Melrose's last week under the Fantasmic! package on the DDP. We got the Calamari for Two as our appetizer which was AMAZING! It was perfectly cooked, and came with three dipping sauces: marinara, pesto, and some sort of honey mustard. Our favorites were the honey mustard & the pesto. For our entrees we ordered the margherita flatbread and the mushroom flatbread. We both enjoyed the ones we ordered but after the appetizer which is huge (big enough for 4), we could only eat half of our entrees. But, they were great! We were too stuffed for dessert so I don't know what was offered, but the server said the chef would prepare a dessert plate of his choosing, I think some sort of sampler plate. We really enjoyed our meal there and service was excellent. It is a very noisy restaurant, though. It is a very casual restaurant, very much like The Old Spaghetti Factory if you are familiar with that restaurant. The Olive Garden is fancier than Mama Melrose's even though it's not even fancy. LOL

I think you should go with Mama Melrose's!
