Hi

Although we have done disney several time this is the 1st time we have purchased the HB vouchers (mainly due to the feedback on this board and the poor exchange rate:thumbsup2 )

Now what I would like to know is which restaurants under the HB plus plan would you recommend for the best character dining. We normally eat at Inventions or Cafe Mickey, but as the HB plus pays for the entire meal I wondered which restaurants included in the plan have the best character interaction.

Having to look at ways to watch the pennies but still have a fabulous time,so Inventions is off limits this time:laughing:

Thanks for any suggestions

We have always enjoyed the Lucky Nugget Character Buffet Lunch it's my 9 year old DS's favourite restaurant and he's asked to go there for his birthday meal, so we'll be back again in March, booked paid for and birthday cake ordered.
Actually I think LN is the only character dining option covered by HB+ vouchers ? The tea party is much cheaper and would be such a waste of the vouchers and of course it's now at the same venue and a returning DISer reported recently that they couldn't use the vouchers at the Steakhouse Sunday Brunch, something to do with alcohol being included.

Inventions CM and Auberge are all on the premium plan so really it's just LN or use the vouchers at face value and pay the difference at one of these.

The Lucky Nugget is definitely my children's favourite dining experience, although not necessarily for the character interaction.

Recent reports suggest the quality of the latter has been variable lately.

I think Jill's right - on HB plus, the only character meal payable fully with your vouchers is the Lucky Nugget character lunch.
I have to say, between the Lucky Nugget and Cafe Mickey, the Lucky Nugget has been our favourite character meal, and we'll hopefully be going again this year :goodvibes .

I think it also depends whether buffets or choosing from a menu suits your family better. Buffets are the way to go for us, so we have used our half board plus vouchers at Cape Cod (very good food) Billy Bobs in the Village (tex mex, great location and decent food) and the Lucky Nugget.

I'd also like to try the Hunters Grill, and of course the Steakhouse brunch in the Village. But as Jill has said, there have been recent reports that half board plus vouchers have not been accepted there.

Just back and we were able to use our HB Plus vouchers at the SteakHouse Brunch without a problem - I did check the previous evening, to be sure. They told me HB plus were fine, but Premium would not have been :confused3

We enjoyed it, but actually much preferred our other character meal which was at Lucky Nugget. The character interaction was great, and they all came to us twice, and a few even 3 times during our meal.

We saw Pluto, Mickey, Jess, Eeyore, Tigger and Goofy.

We actually preferred our food there too, as there were more choices which were suitable for our kids.

It's incredible how the rules seem to change week by week, good to know that you were able to use them :thumbsup2

Many thanks for your all your suggestions.

The Lucky Nugget it will be :thumbsup2

We have never eaten there before and from all the replies I feel it will be a wonderful change, so once again thanks :)

Hi do you need to make reservations for the Lucky Nugget?

Hi, you shouldn't have to, but if you do you'll avoid waiting if it does happen to be busy. We usually book via telephone in the morning, same day that we're eating.

You can book at City Hall or at your hotel reception if you are staying on site.

I have been to Lucky Nugget and Cafe Mickey and had a great time at both although i personally ahve felt more realxed at Cafe Mickey and the food is better. We always try to book at the begiining of the evening as it is quieter but the characters still come out. At Lucky Nuggett i have seen children run over to the characters whereas in Cafe Mickey the characters always walk round to each table to make it fairer.

Hi,

I understand the lucky nugget is a buffet meal, what is the range of food available.

many thanks

From waht i can remember ?(my last visit was in 2006) the menu consists of chicken drumsticks, pizza, chicken nuggets, chips, various salads, rice, pasta that kind of thing, the restaurant is in Frontierland and the food is what you would expect, a little rustic, you can certainly imagine cowboys eating there! Again there is probably more detail in the review threads.

For main course last week there was salmon, creamy pasta, a delicious broccoli and pine nut dish, chicken fajitas, chile con carne, chips, chicken wings, pork ribs and of course chicken nuggets and chips....there was lots more too, but that is all I can remember just now.

No kids running around while we were there, and lots of characters who made multiple visits.

The starters were not as fancy as The Steak House - no mussels, prawns or salmon, but still plenty of choice.

The menu sounds lovely, it seems very similar to a place we dined within the the disney village - i believe it was billy bobs, but that was a buffet and really great for both kids and adults.

I think we will definately use one of our HB vouchers here :)

We love the Lucky Nugget, but are planning to eat at La grange at Billy Bob's the evening we arrive, nice to know it's a similar menu, the boys will love it. :thumbsup2
