Best Restaurant at AKL (besides Jiko)?

So...I finally got my parents to agree to let me show them that Disney is not just for kids! :goodvibes We will be staying at AKL and visiting only Animal Kingdom and Epcot. We're also planning to have a late dinner at Narcoossee's (timed around Wishes) and do the sunset safari at AKL, which includes a family-style meal at Jiko.

Which other restaurant, Boma or Sanaa should I bring them to? They're not big fans of buffet or curry, but they have agreed that we should try one of the restaurants at the resort. We were leaning toward Boma, because the menu at Sanaa looks very limited and heavy on the spices, but then I saw so many people on here suggesting Sanaa. Which do you think is best?

I know people rave about Boma but my family went and we were not impressed. It is an absolutel INCREDIBLE resort but I was not crazy about the food -- would I stay there again? In a heartbeat! And Victoria Falls was a great little wine/tasting bar!:thumbsup2

We love Sanaa, especially for lunch when you can watch the animals on the savannah. It is also a beautiful restaurant. There are a few choices on the menu that are not Indian or Asian, but not many. We also like the food at Boma, but it can get quite busy and loud. It sound like you have a nice trip planned. AKL is a beautiful resort.

We weren't too impressed with Boma either... especially dining there after we had tried Jiko!!

Thank you everyone for the thoughts on Boma! I'm thinking it really may be too loud for my parents, although I liked the idea of variety.

Thank you! We are very excited and still have a way to go! Lunch is a great idea! Can you see the savannah from anywhere in the restaurant? I was intrigued by the menu, but my father is a rather unadventurous eater and does not like curry or salmon (my guess for the "sustainable fish"). What are the more Asian dishes?

Thank you so much for the tip about Victoria Falls. They would love that! :goodvibes

Sanaa, we stayed at Kidani village in November and Sanaa is worth a trip to the resort. The tandori shrimp was great, my husband loved his vegetarian sample and my daughter's cheese pizza was great!

Thank you. We are leaning toward Sanaa, as long as my father sees something on the menu that appeals to him. Was the Tandoori Shrimp unusually spicy?

I wouldn't really say that anything at Saana has an Asian taste to it. Definitely Indian flavors. Not terribly spicy, we found that most of the flavor came from a set of dips/sauces that the waiter brought out to go with our food. Great flavors though. If they don't like Indian at all, then I would go Boma. The tastes at Boma are a little more subdued, but also is a heartier food. And they have several items on the buffett that are pretty much all American tastes. We feel that Saana is all about the Indian flavors, Jiko is about refined African flavors with an upscale presentation, and Boma is more generalized African flavors that are toned down a bit for less adventurous eaters.

What a great description of each restaurant! I think maybe the PP was referring to India as being in Asia and I misunderstood. It's good to know about the sauces being on the side. My mom, my son, and I are all pretty adventurous, so it's really just a matter of finding something that appeals to my dad. I'm thinking of looking for a local Indian restaurant to bring them to before we need to make the ADR's. Thank you! :goodvibes

Well, I guess I'll be the dissenting voice...have tried all the restaurants at AKL, and was not impressed at all by Sanaa (very bland flavors, but I do really like Indian cuisine, so maybe I was expecting something else) and just thought that Jiko was "ok". We have been to Boma many times and it is one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. Boma also has a variety of tastes (aside from the usual mac and cheese/chicken nugget stuff)....some Indian, some African, some mediterranean/middle eastern. But nothing really bizarre, IMHO.
