What are people’s thoughts? Traveling with my wife, 2 kids (11/6) and grand parents.

The family suites at AoA are really nice... and kids love the theaming.
One time when they were not available we ended up getting two rooms that joined at pop.... it worked well.

I’d get 2 rooms. When we traveled with my parents, we rented points for a 2 bedroom Dvc and a studio, they were so happy to be able to get away from us for a bit, and they saw my kids every day at home. My mom’s sister was planning a trip with her kids/grandkids, and my mom said having separate rooms made the trip.

Two rooms at the resort of your choice and request that they are connecting.

I would get 2 rooms -- one for your family and one for the grandparents. It gives you each your own space. The kids can "sleep over" with the grandparents if that is desired. You can request connecting rooms but it isn't guaranteed. Which resort would depend on your budget and what theming appeals to you.

This year I booked a trip for my newly combined family of 6. I found it discouraging. Disney makes it very difficult to accommodate a big family. They will not guarantee adjoining rooms, and only a very small handful of rooms even accommodate 6.

The FtWilderness cabins sleep 6, but two of those people have to share a pull out sofa, and there's only one bathroom. They are very comfortable for a family of 4. Some of the club level rooms at BWI have 2 beds plus a pull out and accommodate 6. As others have pointed out there are the 2 bedroom villas but they are limited numbers and cost prohibitive for a lot of people. I looked for months and none became available for my dates.

The new Swan Reserve has suites, but the 1 bedroom suite only has one bathroom and again, two people would have to share a pull out. It also has 2 bedroom suites but I was wary of booking that sight unseen before the hotel even opened, given the price.

In the end, we booked a deluxe family room with a connecting room at the Dolphin. You can't book those online. Both Swan and Dolphin have accommodations for bigger families, but if you look at the Disney site it will tell you that max occupancy is 4.

I also vote two rooms. We have stayed in AoA suites and it was nice but you are still on top of each other a little. Only one real bedroom with privacy. My parents are coming for a few days on our next trip and they agreed they want their own room this time. I also plan on them baby sitting the kids for a night so my DH and I can have a night alone.

Editing to add that having rooms right next to each other isn’t always great either. It’s nice to have a little space. Plus we don’t spend that much time in the rooms anyway.

We have traveled with another couple and our two kids… best for us has been DVC. you can rent points and price that out, but a 2 bedroom will give you at least two bathrooms. And privacy. And common space to share.

With young kids, Contemporary hands down. Easy walk to and from Magic Kingdom. Perfect for afternoon pool and naps. And yes, if you have the budget, highly recommend a 1 or 2 bedroom DVC at contemporary.

I actually just booked a 2 bedroom villa at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek. I know it's not a "disney" property per se, but I got a great rate that's less than half what the rack rate was for Value Resort Standard Room. This way, each of my 4 kids gets their own sleeping space and we have a full kitchen to cook ourselves breakfast and prep lunches every day. Plus, the resort looks beautiful and we're really looking forward to it.

With four adults I would do two rooms or a two bedroom. Then you’d have two baths and not be so cramped. If it was two adults and four kids I’d go for family suite or cabins.

We went with my dad and step mom one year and they had a standard room while we got a ASMu fam suite. they were given the room next door to us. It was perfect! They had their own space we could hang out in the living room area of the suite together. It was one of my favorite WDW trips. AoA has all suites in the same buildings and the standard rooms elsewhere so that would not have worked out.

I'm down with 2br Dvc rental. This is how I tested DVC prior to buying. Rented from owner for 3 trips b4 I bought in.
