Best rental car company other than Hertz?

We are not flying into Orlando, but into Ft. Lauderdale and then driving around the state. What car rental company do you recommend? I have used Hertz before, but hubby does not want a Ford! What other one is good to work with, or maybe I should ask what ones to avoid!

Hertz has many other brands other than Fords. You could get a Chevy, Buick, Toyota, KIA when you rent from them.

If I don't use Hertz I use National. (Which means you probably get a Chevy)

I wasn't sure because their webpage show a full size as a Ford Taurus. I guess it would be best to call if I wanted to request a certain type rather than reserving on the internet? Anybody know much about Avis. I actually found a better rate with them.

Hertz will now allow you to select certain types of cars at select locations. (Orlando being one of them) SO if you are dead set on a Camry you can reserve it on the internet. Avis is mainly GM as I recall.

I got a Toyota from Hertz once.

There are quite a few Toyota's in the Hertz fleet. I had one for my last rental. I had requested a Taurus and got a Toyota.

I'm a big Avis fan. Sign up for free for the Preferred Program and there's no wait when you pick up your car.

I was thinking of going with Avis so I am glad to see you think they are good to work with. So far, that is the best rate I am getting. We have never used them but I know they are a reputable company.

Do sign up for the preferred program. It truly is free and I think the rates are even better with the AWD code that automatically pops in when you look up rates online. But the best is just walking up and getting into the car. No waiting in line. Phew!
