Okay, just a quick update on how this worked (for a client of mine.)
I had booked this client at AKL under the "best rate guarantee" for October, but at rack rates (no discounted offer came up when booking this, but best rate guarantee was on the reservation.) This was booked one of the first few days the offer was available.
Fast forward to today--guest services calls to advise that the rate has come down and the new rate has been applied to the reservation.
So for those of you who booked the best rate guarantee, but booked it at full rack rate because a lower rate was not coming up, don't panic. This has worked. I have seen it myself.
Rate went from $295.48 per night (AKL water/pool) to $206.28 per night.
