if you stay on site, there would be the advantage of returning to your hotel for a swim or relax in the lobby or your room. on HHN nights, crowds start to form in the parks around 3ish. Weekends will be more crowded than the week days though.

if you stay off site, you could do other things in the area.

you will be in orlando from a friday/17th to a wed/22

the best two days should be 20/monday and 21/tuesday if you stay off site.

hhn will happen on the 16, 17,18,19, 20 and 22. think that is Hell Week at the park. schools are out for a break and the park usually fills up with high schoolers/college kids then.

I would think that Oct. 22 would be the better day. It is a Wednesday so midweek is usually not that crowded. Also, I highly recommend staying onsite. I am a Florida resident and only go to Universal/IOA if we stay onsite, Why?, because you get an express pass for everyone staying in room. They are good not only for your entire stay but even day of check-out. I feel that you really need two days, because there is so much to do. If the night has HHN than the parks will close a bit early. Have fun! Posted this same time as macraven. I didnt realize that schools are out on Wednesday, I figured Thursday or Friday. Even so, if you stay onsite those express passes will save you from standing in line forever.

oct 22 falls as the first date of hell week.
hhn will be open that night.

kids are out of school.

studios close at 5, ioa at 6

Please, what about Monday 10/27 or Tuesday 10/28. Which would be the better day to go? Will hell week affect these days?

HHN will not be open on those 2 dates.

HHN will start in the evening again on the wednesday 29th

Hell week is the week before those dates.

i would say tuesday would be my choice.

you can check the hhn calendar for days of operation in case you change your mind on the dates you want to go to avoid HHN this year.

Okay, so I was all set for Sunday 19-October and Monday 20-October and then realised I had totally screwed up the dates of my conference (I'm tagging on 1 night/2 days at Universal to the end of a conference) and will actually be there a week later on Sunday 26-October and Monday 27-October. I'll have the whole of Sunday and Sunday night, but Monday only until early afternoon.

My original dates were just before Hell week, but I am not worried about my dates. Will Hell week continue on until the 27th and 28th? I'm staying on-site (so have FOTL) but another thread said that things would be bad even with FOTL during those weeks.

I do not intend on attending HHN (I HATE haunted houses) so will leave US for IOA when the HHN start coming in (and then spend the night in the pool or at City Walk).

the park on sunday the 26th will start to have crowds at the studios side around 3ish. people that are coming for the stay and scream portion usually come earlier than 5 to catch some rides and secure their presence in the park before it closes.

move over to the IOA side around 2ish and do that park. it closes at 6 pm that date.

get up early on monday and do the park. be there before park opening and it will be walk on rides. even though you are on site, you can use the fotl but you won't need it until 10ish.
the park should not be very crowded until afternoon.

no hell week for your dates of oct 27-28. it is only for the time period mentioned before. schools are out for break and more young people will be at the parks on hell week.
i have not heard of anyone having issues using the fotl for the week you are going. no predictions i am aware of. that fotl saves you from long lines.

i understand, not everyone enjoys the hard ticket event.
when the parks close on that sunday you are in the park, go to your hotel and enjoy the pool.
you might want to take in a tour of city walk and have dinner there.
when people are in the parks for hhn, not many leave it to eat at city walk.

no matter what, you will enjoy yourself at the parks and at your hotel.
a day and a half is not a lot of time to spend there but if you go to the parks at 8:20ish in the morning, you will accomplish a lot of rides without crowds.
crowds typically start around 11ish .
that would be a good time to take a break and have lunch. no crowds at the cs places then and plenty of seats available.

for sunday, start at the studios side and switch to ioa in the afternoon.
for monday, do the opposite so you can do what you missed at ioa the day before.

the parks will not have any hhn openly displayed when you are there.
they close the park at 5 to prepare it.
many things are on pods and brought in for hhn.
the things that can't be removed and put up for the event are covered over and disguised.
since you are not into hhn, you should not be able to detect much of the ambiance it will transform into for that evening.

Is "HELL" week usually the third week in October?

I'm planning for 2009.
