Okay, All you DVC members out there who have transferred points to another member please tell me what process you used. Did you request money up front and then transfer points? Did you use a contract? Wanting to make sure this is a fair process for all involved. TIA
i am working on a contract for one now, any suggestions? details as to how this works since i know once i do it they are the other persons permanently? -wee bit worried-
From what I have been reading on the boards it seems most people require the money upfront before they transfer the points. Other then that I don't know what else to suggest. I'm not very good at legalese.
I have rented points to put in my account twice and paid upfront both times! I didn't do any kind of contract, but talked to the members on the phone and felt very comfortable about it.
I have transfered twice. Both times i talked on the phone for a fwe and felt confortable. then pay paled the funds and then called on 3way to MS.
No contracts, but done funds and transfers within the hour.
what to think, but after thinking about it
if i am transferring, its to another dvc member. 50 % before and 50% once it goes into their account seems reasonable. are there any suggestions for contracts?
I just made a transfer for a cruise I am going on in June on the Dream
I emailed and spoke with the man I transferred to a couple of times. I was very nervous because I knew this was a permanent transaction and once it leaves your account you cannot get the points back., unlike a rental where you could just cancel the reservation.
I transferred 224 pts and was paid upfront. When I received a certified check I transferred the points. I realize this was really a leap of trust for him.
$2224.00 is allot of money to send someone. I guess you would like to think most people are honest.
I was the man who did the transfer with mickey's girl 52. Basically I posted on these boards that I was in need of some points to transfer, she responded that she had points to transfer. We emailed each other and called each other a few times. We had each other's names and addresses and there is a website that is connected with the clerk of Orange County, FL where I was able to verify that she indeed was a DVC owner. When I was ready to send the money I felt comfortable dealing with her so I got a certified check from the bank and sent it and she transfered the points to our account the day she received the check.
It was almost like we were dating and building up to the big moment. But yeah, there is a certain amount of trust you need to have in order to conduct such a transaction and you do have to be vigilant because of stories you hear about scamming. If you use a pay service like Paypal there is a measure of protection for both parties, but after talking with mickey's girl I felt comfortable doing a straight transaction.
I have done a few transfers myself. Depending who it is, i have had 100% upfront, then immediate transfer the points or do 50% deposit before transfer, then 50% balance immediate after transfer all through paypal.
We would do a few e mails back and forth and have spoke on phone as well before conducting any business transacations.
It good to have references on file as well for anyone who may request to see it so they know they are dealing with a trustworthy Dvc owner.
As far as doing the "contract", i only draw it up when renting room reservations.
I have transferred points a couple times, every time except once, I did 50% upfront, 50% after it was done, one time I had a member that wanted all the money upfront, because transfering is a final trancaction, i went back and forth via email, and spoke to her on phone, and felt comfortable doing the money upfront, I guess there has to be some trust involved.
