A few months ago we moved into a neighborhood that goes all out for Halloween. I know I'm going to have a lot of trick or treaters so I'm trying to find the best price for candy. Any suggestions?

What kind of candy and sizes are you looking for? Full size bars seem best at warehouse clubs in 30 pack boxes. For snack size use the guideline that you can get six packs at dollar stores and Walmart for $1. So when checking a bag see how many pieces it holds and divide by 6 to get a dollar equivalent. Sometimes the smaller bags come out more that the six for a dollar packages. Different varieties have different numbers of bars in a package so each one can be different. Walmart also has some larger snack size bags this time of year which may work out even cheaper. Also, my local supermarket discounts the small size bags this time of year and they can be less than at Walmart.

Kroger where I live has bags on sale for $2 each if you buy 5. Walmart savings catcher matched that this week (even though I only bought one bag).

I also do well at cvs (with coupons and extra bucks) and Target (with coupons and Cartwheel).

My problem is once I buy them I start eating them!

We didn't bother shopping around comparing prices. We just two of the monster bags of candy and Costco.

Last year I needed about 20 bags of candy for Trunk or Treat at church. I started watching the sales early and paired coupons with deals and didn't pay more than $1.50/bag for mini candy bars. I got a lot at Kroger when they did their sales and the rest came from CVS or Wallgreens when they were doing deals.

Good tips. I literally don't care what kind of candy. I'm expecting about 300 trick or treaters so I need the most candy for the least money. So far the prices seem to be pretty much the same everywhere.

I buy 2 different things- full sized bars and fun dip- fun dip is this cheap sugar stuff with a stick you dip into it- its 4.65 for 48 packs, less than 10 cents each. I give the kids a choice and more of them take the cheap fun dip than the full sized bars. I get it online at walmart ( don't like actually going to walmart LOL) and they have free shipping if you spend 50.00

Costco or Sams Club probably give you the most candy for the least amount of money. Huge bags.

If you are going quantity over quality, suckers and smarties are where your will get most pieces for the lowest cost.

We have almost 500 trick or treaters at our house. I buy the big bags of Tootsie Pops at Walmart. There's 55 in a bag for $4.99. I used to buy the good stuff, but since they've started busing kids in from who-knows-where, the good stuff is too expensive now!

I pick up a couple of huge bags at Sams every year. The best deal around.
