Hi guys

Following on from reading the US dollars thread earlier, I'm sorted cash wise, but looking at what is the best prepaid credit card, looked at the fairfx one which I've seen mentioned a few times on here see that's it's got a matching phone app to keep an eye on balance etc

What other ones / options are out there, pros and cons

And do people still use travellers cheques?

Many thanks shaun :)

I have had a fairfx card for over six years now and love it, the app is grdat and i can top up useing it too

Cool thanks for that :). One thing I was worried about was not being able to track my balance, but the app seems a good idea todo that :cool1:

Any other good ones out there?

Cheers Shaun

Is there a time limit to how quickly you have to spend your balance on the fairfx card or can you just keep loading $ onto it until you want it? I'm not going for a year but would like to load a pre paid card for this next trip rather than changing a load of cash. I used the card the coop travel agent issue last trip and it was much better having less cash to carry but I'm pretty sure there was a time limit on using that one.

Yes, people still use traveller's cheques, but it seems more and more people in Canada and the US are moving to Travel Cash Cards, which offer benefits like being usable where the relevant credit card (Mastercard, Visa) is allowed.

Here in Canada, the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA, the Canadian version of the US' AAA) offers a travel cash card (http://www.caasco.com/Travel/Travel-Information/CAA-Travel-Money.aspx).

I did a quick search and found one of the UK AA clubs has a similar card:

http://www.theaa.com/currency-card/index.html?ico=homepage&icl=travel_currency_cards&icc=header

This AAA site lists the international AA clubs and there are multiple ones for GB, so you may have to do a bit of research to find "your" club and if they have them: http://exchange.aaa.com/automobiles-travel/international-travel/international-clubs/

Finally, at least here some of our banks offer something similar.

I note that I have not actually used these cards, but I know some people who used the Canadian ones and were very pleased with them.
